Just had a search through old posts on brakes and didn't really find a definitve answer. Would standard 2 pot calipers, greenstuff pads and vented disks provide adequate stopping power a lightly tuned turbo mini? Also how much of an improvement would you notice over a standard set up?

thanks

Im using the 8.4 setup on my 65hp 998 (non turbo), using drilled and grooved discs, also using ebc green stuff pads, the stopping ability I find satisfactory for the power im producing. considering its non servo assisted. IMO I wouldnt use the green stuff pads again, I much preffered the mintex items I used before, a far better pad.
From memory I think there has been a thread in the past which adressed similar questions with the 7.5" disc setup, and I believe a few people noted then the superiority of the mintex pads over the ebc's.
I have driven a friends 1380, he runs 8.4's no servo, and the stopping on that was fine. I think from experience (and to any other member please add your views) the 8.4" set up can be used sucsessfully with a good disc and pad combo, for reasonable cost. At the end of the day there is superior setups on the market, but that depends on your budget.

yes i second that, use mintex, if it has EBC's i'd bin them. with the 8.4's the std mintex compound should be good. I find the uprated 1144 copound good with no servo on 7.5's. they work well enough cold, and as you start pushing they get better, not got to fadepoint yet!!

only thing with them is they tend to be a little bit squeely at low speed/light pressure. That may be the cheap discs though (minispares cheapest ones).

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

To be fair the only car I would fit Mintex pads to (1144 or any of their other efforts) is the car of somebody I hate and would like to see die painfully in a horrible fireball.

In my experience I'd rather use a cornflake packet than Mintex pads, absolute rubbish on all cars I have tried them in!!

For the road I use the Ferrodo fast road pads, silent, great from cold and never faded even after 1 hour of solid track action!!

EBC green are fine for track use IMHO but don't last on the road and make a god aweful mess of your wheels.

What am I fitting to Candice's 8.4" brakes, no servo, turbo build? Ferrodo fast road pads ...

What do I use in my car? EBC and plenty of wheel cleaner!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Ive had mixed use with 1144's

I recall once I fitted them to my Legacy the day before a track day, as it was all i could get in a hurry.

3/4 way round my first lap ( I did try a little bedding in on the road ) I nearly didnt make if round the bend after the last straight.

But, I let them cool, and they withstood everything I threw at them the rest of the day.

When I was driving my Mini, I had the old Asbestos version of the Mintex which were great.
The last pads I used were from Minispares, dont recall the. Some carbon metallic pad or something. I dont recall stopping ever being difficult, even from silly speeds repeatedly.
Its nice having 2 3/4mile dual carriageways split by roundabouts locally...one with a step uphill section, followed by a slightly less step downhill, which makes for absolutely silly stop speeds !!! ( 7500rpm limter top speeds !!! )

But Ferodo are always great pads. I have DS2500's in my granada.

EBC....wouldnt bother myself if I was drivinf fast.
The greens are very alloy friendly though.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
