I think you will find the reason is that people want to avoid ebay fees which are not charged on the postage only on the selling price.

When I buy from ebay I look at the overall cost and bid accordingly. Yeah that's the reason really, plus it makes the item seem cheaper if you don't look at the postage price. You get the odd 99p buy it now with £180 postage sometimes! On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

Like danboy said you dont pay ebay fees on postage so a lot of people put high postage charges on to reduce there fees.

If i see anyone bit postage even 50% over what it should be, I totally ignore the auction.

i've sold a lot of stuff on ebay and try to cover all my external costs in the postage charge. This sometimes covers paypal fee's and auction fee's, if they are applicable, on top of the postage cost. However, this is never excessive as i usually have a stock of old packaging to reduce the cost there. I suppose it ends up being the same, but am always aware as a seller not to take the pish.
I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

I dont get why the hell it matters?? you are the one who chooses how much you pay for the item in total not the seller! if they want £1 OTT for the post then just bid £1 less!

And I think we are talking about people that charge £15 via Royal Mail for something that ends up with £2 something stamped on it. Its getting really daft now. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:
