Has anyone managed to fit a firbeglass bonet without using pins?

I found this but it doesn't say whether this has the hinge mountings or not, but im guessing as its been refered to as a "skin" it wouldn't have them?

ive never seen one that comes with the mounts but it shouldnt be too hard to fabricate some brackets and bond them on

i would never use a fibregass bonnet with bonded on hinge brackets. i seen the aftermath of one that the bonnet departed from the brackets made a nice mess of the blokes newly painted car.

its just a thoughyt

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Hmmm...not sure where to go from here then? The bonnet ive got is knackered as Ive taken the cross-members out for a little more space, and its rusty on the front edge!

Fibreglass sounds like it could end disaster! Lol

In that case, he probably didn't do a very good job of bonding in the brakets for the hinges.

If you do a decent job, it should be just as strong as a steel fixing.

Bonnet straps on a mini are never a bad idea IMO, though, steel or GRP bonnet.

Preferebly a fibreglass one as there lighter, cheaper and cutting holes should be a little easier. Ive got leather straps at the moment and was planning to use them again as the front fixing.

Minimad69 how much would you want for your bonnet, im looking for one without the lip, saves drilling the spot welds of again.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

I had a bonnet from ABS a few years ago that they bonded on some hinge mounts for me at the time of purchase for about £8. Never caused me any problems .....

The bonnet I have now is a pain in the neck so might chuck it on the bay and get another from ABS....

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Id have thought that too.

My Granada bonnet is a single skin of Kevlar. It has pins at the front obviously, but 2 simple angle iron brackets bonded at the rear for the hinge fixings.

I have to say I am amazed they are still holding, given the shapes my bonnet has been at high sped.
I dont think a Mini bonnet would ever see such abuse, both due to car, and bonnet shape etc.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
