vizard mentions in one of his books that a worthwhile mod is to retap and increase the size of the gearbox to engine bolts.....has anyone done this to their turbo motor and is it really needed?? |

This mod is done mostly by racers who have problems with the gear box gasket leaking.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Allen heads in this application is a fucking nightmare... Get some 5/16 UNF bolts with 3/8" head. The BEST solution, end of discussion. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

I beg to differ :) I have used both 5/16 hex head bolts and cap heads, and the cap heads are far far far far far far far far far easier to fit as long as you have an allen key you cut down a little for the ones over the diff. all others you can use a socket adapter and a torque wrench. Make sure you use washers under the head of the bolts though You try and get a socket with a torque wrench onto the 5/16 hex heads ![]() That's why I tell you to use the ones with a 3/8" head. Then you can just use this:
Until you show me an allen key that can do that, you're wrong. Torque wrench......how anal can you get

I will also agree with Vegard that using a torque wrench on those isn't necessary. I do however think that allen bolts are good as long as you have a cut down key. |

It's still fucking time consuming compared to a ratchet spanner. It may look cool, but I'm not too concerned about that.
