Does any one have a pot joint to hand that they can measure, with some calipers, the shaft end, the bit that fits into the box???....

I bought some Cooper S hardy Spicer outputs and flanges. They are the right outputs with the bolt and not the nut with an un stepped shaft. The flanges howerver do look right, but the outside diameter of the shaft is roughly 32mm. Is this right?? I thought the Cooper S output flanges were a bigger shaft diameter??? Did the later autos with Hardy Spicers have a reduced diameter?? Is 32mm the same as the pot joint?? Should I look for the bigger output flanges, maybe being that bit stronger??

So many questions, but i was under the impression that if you wanted to use Hardy Spicers in a rod change box, you needed the Special Tuning seal covers because of the bigger shaft diameter and detent ball spring, the standard pot joint covers were too small??

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Pot joints are 1.250" or 31.75mm where they fit in the seal.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i was always told the hardy spicers were bigger for sure, hence them being stronger.

I think there was some smaller diameter ones made for the auto box yes. I have the proper ones here, you will get proper ones if you buy for a LSD

BTW I am on the look for a hardy joint itself as one of mine is slopy, even with a new cross.

Just been to measure mine and it's 1.375" as opposed to the 1.250 auto.

S and Auto are the same. The Auto went Pot in 73 didn't it?

If you look at a HS output shaft, there is a threaded section in the end. Pot outputs don't have this.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Just measured my spare pair and they too are 1.375, I do know these came from an auto box so Vegard you are totally correct.
So minisprocket I dont know what you have there if the diameter is 1.250.
But if you have suitable diff output shafts and end covers why not use them.
