Just received my arches from the above folks.

Service was very good and delivery was just as good.

But, Quality is poor for what I think is top dollar price. £84 Inc delivery.

I decided on theirs due to seeing a few cars with them on, and being a gel coat top finish, thought it was worth the extra.

Well, all of the arches have scratches in the top coat, and chips on most of the arch to body edges. Also the lip of both the front arches were you would place the chrome trim has a number of build up areas on. Possibly were the gel coat has penetrated the moulding.

But what was supposed to a final finish on the arches, (which is what I was interested in, in the first place). Now I’ve got more than an hour or 2's work in finishing them off me. And painting.

Anyway that’s my 2 cents.

Thanks for letting me vent.!

Not angry but just a little bit Pissed off.

Not yet.

Only just got round to checking them, Its def not delivery damage. But manufacture.

I know its fibre glass mix. But just thought they would be a bit better.

Anyone else have the same.? and what do you think of the quality.?

Any comments welcomed.

Cheers

the last ones i bought were excellent, beautiful black gel coat finish, and really thick boss's to drill and rivet/screw through.
maybe since theyve been remanufactured they are different quality?

also, if youre thinking of putting a chrome trim on the lip, before you drill any holes, 'sink' the sill into the bottom lip instead of stting it ontop.

probably teaching you to suck eggs and all, but needless to say one side of my old cooper was alot better than the other LOL

Hi thanks for the info.

Yeah, don't get me wrong good solid things not much flex to. But just the finish is not to hot. I will try and post some pics.

And, do most people remove any of the original arches on the front wings.?

Si P .... if your really not happy Min-Its ones fit loverly and are very good quality.

To be 100% fair getting a top quality finish on a self colour gel coat layup is always going to be difficult. You should see some of the crap turned out by well known kit car manufactures!!!

Sommerford stuff is usually good though. I normally use them for panels and Min-Its for everything else. Having said that Min-Its can get heritidge panels too so maybe time to make them 100% supply....

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Lowestoft, Suffolk.

A mate bought a set from mini sport and they was a poor fit, totally shite! Never had a problem with sommerford myself.

somerford ones have a FANTASTIC reputation

I think everyone is getting carried away with shooting them down before anyone has spoken to them about this problem, as si p has said, theres nothing wrong with the quality, just the finish, it may just be possible that theyve been damaged whilst boxed, or maybe a set that slipped through

i strongly suggest you give them a ring (hope that no one there has read this thread) and im sure if they wereent they would offer to swap them for another set

Quite the opposite Nic, just rang them for some body panels as they seem to be quite highly spoken of in this thread for panels. Lol

I bought a few sets the last time they were in business, two possibly three years ago. The arches were FANTASTIC! I have no idea if this new batch is the same.

The Fronts are the worst. And yeah going to fit a chrome trim. but they still need a bit of work for that to look right.

I,ve started already so wont be returning them.

Thanks for having a look.
