OT just got home from the hospital

well for anyone who is near the North East, beware the FREEMAN HOSPITAL, i have just had an operation recently (Septoplasy) as my airways in my nose were blocked / collapsed (and no i dont do charlie !!!!) from start to finish it has been a nightmare !! i arrived on the day and got settled in my bed all was ok at this point......but that is where it ends !!!! i noticed that the staff had very little regard for patients welfare they just seemed to go through the motions. finally my time came for theatre and the surgeon (some emotionless German) came into the prep area, no hello , no how are you.......just "HEAD BACK PLEASE" he then sprayed some stuff up my nose which then went down my throat.....i later found that this was anesthetic !!!!! he could have told me !!!!!! so having been left strugggling to swallow he handed me oer to the anethiatist and i was knocked out with help of some swanky gas !!!

i came around from the op and had been suffereing with some side efects from the anesthesisa ie i was overheating and being sick. my wife closed the curtains on my bay and took my sheets off me to cool down, 2 seconds later a nurse told me off saying that i cannot have curtains closed and she then covered me up again...my wife tried to say i was overheating but the nurse walked away.

first night on ward and i was having problems sleeping, in tremendous pain felt like all my teeth had been punched in, and the nose packs were uncomfortable, everytime i drifted off the nurses would start laughing and screaming in the corridor, yet when i press my buzzer for assistance 10mins pass and no nurse ???

well the next morning at 0600 ?! wtf ! the nurse said she had to remove my packing from my nose, before i could prepare myslef she grabbed the cords and ripped the packs out of my nose, causing me to yelp. the packs are the size and shape of a domino ! this caused major bleeding !! she then walked away ?

0700 i was then told "OUT OF BED WE NEED IT FOR THE NEXT PERSON" despite the fact i was still suffering with sickness i climbed out of bed and tried to put my clothes on..nose bleeding everywhere. i then waited until 1000hrs as they had forgotten about me the bed was not used ?!!!

to top it all off and i am not racist there were muslim doctors who were not washing their hands with alcohol (battle against MRSA) when i challenged the staff i was told "Its against their religion" i could not believe it !!!! reckon i should go to the papers with this one...iam now sat at home still in pain...I wish i had never got the op done !!!

thats harsh mate, i really feel for you.

I recently had my leg done, hospital for me is a pretty scary place, ive been there a few times for various different things and every time ive been lucky.

The alcohol rub was something that only one nurse did when i had my leg done. She was religous about it, every bed she went to she used it.

I also get nausea from general anesthetic but this time i mentioned it before the op. They gave me something to counter it and it worked fantastically well.

I hope you heal ok mate, ive got loads of cocodamol here if you need it

need a syringe to drain the swelling out of my face :( looks and feels like someone has injected a bowl full of jelly into my face.

richi i have had many opps because i have busted my self up over the years

that is crap treatment you recieved fire that letter off to the manager to complain!

but.... never go back to the same hospital again though as my friends father complained once and whent in sevrall years later to the same hospital and never came out

not coincidence neather

take 400 milligrams of ibuprofen every four hours to reduce the inflamation

you can also take paracetamol standard dose as well togeater with the ibufrofen they dont interact togeather

you will get some good pain relief with this combination

in a few days weeks all will be well

need to get that surgeons registration lmfao

Id get on to the medical board about this.
I cant believe they werent washing their hands because its against their religeon. They shouldnt be allowed to do the job in that case.
If I told my employer its against my religion to wear a welding mask, he wouldnt let me do my job.

I have also smashed myself up badly over the years (my feet are on like daffy duck ... motorsport can be dangerous and all that!!!)

After a really bad accident karting at Brands Hatch I woke from the shock to hear a lazy surgeon tell my uncle that there was no hope and I'd have to loose both legs!!!

2 hours later and I was in a private hospital, at huge expense to my uncle for which I will be eternally grateful, being told there was no garentees but they'd do their best.

14 months later it was as if it had never happened (except shoes only last me a couple of month due to the angle my feet are on) but that is much better than being chair bound!!!

The moral I guess is the National Health (non)Service is a waste of space .... if you can afford it go private ....... remember .. your just a statistic!!!

If I had been treated like that, and could prove it, there would already be a letter from my solicitor on both the managers desk, the hea of the local authority and that of the editor of the most influencial local paper in the area!!

Just to add a bit of balance I don't think the NHS is all bad.

I was quite poorly at the end of last year and I've had an op recently at DRI in Doncaster and the care provided was second to none. I have BUPA available to me through work but would never consider using it based of the care I've had so far. If fact, I know someone that used BUPA and had an experience alarmingly similar to MFT.

The NHS were also fantastic when my wife gave birth to our daughter in October, and also a few weeks later when my wife had to be rushed back in for emergency treatment.

MFT, I hope you get well soon and I think you've been really unlucky. Follow it up as suggested and I hope everything works out for you.

i've been in very close contact with hospitals for my whole life due to illness & i feel since about 1990 its just got alot worse, its really bad now!

i've been lucky with staff i deal with,
i have as much & if not more understanding with whats going right/wrong with me & my illness, so i cant be told the wrong thing by a muppet nurse or doc thats not dealt with me before

&

going on what you've put above my1stturbo i'd complain for sure!!! unfortunately the CARE in the CARING profession seems to have been lost due to nurse's mostly not being paid what they're worth! its a tough job on all levels put the way patiants are treated these days is wrong

its become a 9-5 mentality the same as any other job, hospitals are run as a business with a set budget & at the end of the day a nations health cant be costed due to it being a constantly changing situ, nursing cant be that to work well in my view,

i see/hear both sides too due to my sister & a good girly-friend being nurse's

i think you defo have good reason to complain by the way you've been treated though for sure

hospitals are in a shit state at the moment & there are alot of fantastic staff that are held back or leaving the proffession due to bad treatment themselves, its one of those things of the moment that if enough ppl complain & put the foot down things get done

i hope ya okchap & get on the mend soon, anything you feel is a-miss, get on to them about it, but be polte, it defo works

I've had bad experiances and i'd agree with rodger, if you can afford it go private. I most certainly will if I have to go in again, even if the cars have to go to pay for it.

On the NHS a mate of mine went in to have this toncels out and someone turned the bed round.

soz tom sis is a good gal & taken,

but staff in coventry are well............you know they live up to the reputation haha! good to go on a night out with shall we say!
