Ok,

ive not done much on the mini in along while and im now really wanting to get it done!

so ive stripped the gearbox fully and cleaned it, so its ready to rebuild!

what im wondering is, do you lot use oil to rebuild the gearbox? or leave the part dry when you rebuild as there gonna be soaked so many litres of oil before it starts?

just wondering as its cold outside, and im ok to build it inside tonight if theres no oil used! lol!

thanks all in advance!

martin

I build mine dry, then soak it in oil afterwards, then turn it over repeatedly so oil gets into the bearings.

I seriously doubt it!

I put a bit of engine building lube on the syncro cones and rings. This to adress if it is too tight between the big bearings.

i lightly coat the lay bearings, gear cones ( stops the baulk rings from binding). all diff conponets ect this way you can tell if every thing is happy before you put her together.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

What I meant is to stop the baulk rings from binding as well. Use oil there.
I also use engine building lube on the laygear bearings and the small first motion idler. Rest of the bearings will be soaked once engine oil is filled.

exactly as Vegard for my builds - graphite engine building paste in all locations mentioned

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I may be wrong but I always thoughtb if you apply oil on assembly, you wont get the pre loads right.
Ive never seen any adverse effects of my method, but each to their own ways.

You add oil/lube AFTER all the measuring is done. :)
