hi guys, i know there are already a few posts about how to wire in fuel pumps etc but i cant find anywhere who sells the relay, i spoke to avonbar who said it is a major re wire job and not to bother seems a bit dangerous to me as everyone says its easy. Also is wiring an inertia swith that easy or are there any tips you'd advise? cheers gav

have put an inertia switch on mine, on the bulkhead next to the brake servo. I just wired it in series with the fuel pump and fuse, dead easy.

Have been warned by a local specialist that the vibration may trip it but we will see.

regarding the relay, it depends if you want it to work off the oil pressure as the metro does or just as a switch, I have been through wiring diagrams for the metro turbo and mini injection but none of them seem to cover the oil pressure type along with an oil pressure warning light so you may have to lose the light! The relay is a regular SPST 12 Volt type (Single Pole Single Throw) although a double throw could be used. They are nothing special and can be bought from your local motorist shop. I have used an inertia switch off a scrap Ford Fiesta XR2i and simply cut the wires from the factory fiesta loom as far back as I could.

So far the inertia switch is fine by itself but the car has not been on the road yet!

When I screwed mine to the bulkhead, I tested it by giving it a knock with the head of a screwdriver (the blunt end!) and it popped only with a fair clout.

Not very sunny swanage

also, im sure i read somewhere that it is a good idea to wire it up to the low tension side of the ignition, so this also cuts out.

The reason for this iirc is that if you go over a bump when giving it some and it trips out, if it is just connected to the fuel pump then you would melt-down pretty quickly!

Definately!

I keep forgetting that it's a minority running an ECU!

Have the swith activating a decent relay, such that when you switch on your ignition, the live to the coil and fuel pump are both on the same wire...
