My new bonnet has arrived and I want to cut some holes in it again for my intercooler!

The last time I cut the holes I used one of them circular saw thingys with the pilot drill in the middle, seemed to do the job but it doesn't do the neatest job!

Has anyone tried usng one of them holes punches with any success, bearing in mind it has to cut on a curve?

You mean a Q max cutter, these are very good but as you say theres a curve. A holesaw is your only choice. Youll just have to file it up afterwards.

I seriously doubt it!

you could try an angle grinder, or plasma cutter but the hole saw will be neat ish compared

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

A good quality hole saw is best, the solid metal ones, not the spring steel type ones.

They make a neat job usually. Try get one that comes in for other things, i.e. 2"

Yea thats what was used last time. The bonnet was shagged anyway so I was to bothered about finish!

Just weighing up my options before cannibalising my bonnet, looks like theres not much to weigh up though. Lol

If you drill a pilot hole, and use a hole cutter ( like above ) with a soild bar for a pilot, they work a little better.

Sometimes relying on the drill bit to hold centre isnt as good as it should be.

But it is just a case of filing it up afterwards.

Place the bonnet on a piece of wood, if you can get one that has a similar radius to the bonnet so much the better.

This will support the bonnet and also help to guide the pilot an give a better result.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
