Do you mean remove the std ally trumpet to fit hi lo's? if so it is possible, compress the donut as much as possible, the trumpet will not come out due to space restrictions, but if you cut it half with a hacksaw blade it can then be removed, this is a very time consuming and yehaaaa way of doing it tho, much easier and quicker to remove top arm IMHO, I only did it this way as I was unable to undo the shaft bolt at the rear of the subby. To fit the hi lo, I wound it down as low as poss then it slipped in was a little tight, these was an old minisport set, but be warned some of the cheaper sets may be a little taller and not allow this.

I've always had to get the top arms off. It's not as bad a job as others will have you believe. Is it possible to remove them with the engine in place? I've only changed the cones when I've had the engine out, however I'm not sure if there's space to get to the bolts, and remove them, with the engine in place. Isambard Kingdom Brunel said:

So long as you take of both of the big nuts (rear ones a pain but possible) and then remove the mounting plate it'll be fine with just the rad out of the way. Every day is a school day ...........
