Only want the fully floating con-rods and the 2.95 diff, but useful set of spares.

20773 +0.020" pistons with rings - £45.00

Oil drain flange and pipe - £8.50

The earlier A+ 998s used fully floating pins and circlips.

If you want to use the 20950 or 20773, non-slipper pistons you need them.

Ah coolio, i thought it was just the A that had floating pins

Id be tempted to use cooper S rods though at 30psi boost

I dont think that they will fit through the 998 bore.

Must add: 30 psi is the ultimate goal. I will be starting much lower and working up to it. I'm expecting blown head gaskets and damaged pistons along the way.

I'm going to rip the wifes 35 apart this summer and build a nice lightweight strip warrior to put it in. Clubbie front end, fibregalss panels all round. Bini blower and GT17 turbo in series.

With the Cooper S rod you put the rod in through the bottom of the block and then assemble the piston on to it from the top.

I think that the little end needs machining slightly, but the rods should take all the abuse a 998 in what ever guise could throw at it. They also need a Bush fitting to the little end.

Its in TBASE

Axel, S rods can be used as per 998 early Miglias. Put the rod up from the bottom of the bore, then fit piston pins and rings then pull back down into the bore. Only problem is that there may not be pistons available to suit the bigger diameter piston pins.

Thats why you bush the little ends

No A engine EVER had floating pins.

I thought all A series engine had floating pins with circlips, whereas the A+ had press fit pins.

I'm sure if Tom was about he would correct you more harshly.

I see now. Just read that part of TBASE again.

I don't think that the rod is going to be the weak link in this engine. It is not going to be a high revver - say 6500rpm max.

Hence the stresses on the rod are much lower and compressive rather than tensile.

Given the complication of fitting the S rods, I think I'll give them a miss.
