Was hoping to get the 998 turbo engine built up this week and plonk it in a metro i have sitting about this weekend to have a play whilst i sort out my spare mini shell.

Tonight, as the final job, I went to put the mod'd exhaust elbow (thanks Steve) on and upon removing the old one, i find the exhaust turbine is not even attached to the turbo :( It just flaps about like a floppy cock...

I think its the turbo's shaft thats snapped. All the fins are bent in, so its been run while after the turbine has departed company..

Funny thing is, the inlet turbine feels ok.

Im gonna guess that the T3 rebuild kit Ive bought wont fix this LOL..

Didnt have the digital camera with me this afternoon, but will post some pics up tomorrow night.

Anyone got a spare turbo?

I'll have a look for you to see if one of my mock up units is suitable for rebuild. Got a couple but I'm sure one is siezed solid ..

As you all love pics of distroyed parts:

and for fans of motion pictures:

Amazingly the inlet compressor is fine, a very slight bit of play but nothing that could be deemed excessive.

I bought this turbo over a year (maybe 2!) ago from Jon Flanigan (Giallofly) on this site.

After informing him of its condition tonight, instead of telling me to sod off (like 99.9% of people would have done)his instant responce was to sort the problem and replace it.

All I can say is that Jon is one hell of a good bloke!

Thanks Jon

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Quite impressive though! wonder what sort of noise that made when running *happy*

To be honest how many of us have checked it for play at the inlet end only if the exhaust elbow is still on!

Advantage of buying off someone you know as you can get contact details from them. if it was ebay there is no way you'd have any record of who you got it off 2 years later.

Good old TM *smiley*

ooh that is pretty buggered!

make sense to me they should break at the turbine end, it'll be the hottest part of the shaft.

out of interest any one else had one break elsewhere?
