So have been having a debate at work this morning.

The word "defin_tely"....

What replaces the space? The letter "A" or the letter "I"????

MS Word spellcheck says "I" but myself and many others have always spelt it using "A"...................

So which is correct?!?!?

Its definitely 'I'. Mr Oxford (English dictionary) says so.

I agree with the 'I' spelling.
After all do would you use the spelling definite or definate? To go one step further - finite of finate?

We spell it 'definitely' just as you do and as our American English dictionary dictates.

Americans have spelling down pat I say, Brits put way too many vowels in things. We don't need the u in colour for example, works perfectly well without it. The Aussies win though, jail is spelt goal!
