Are ARP head stud kits a worthwhile investment ?? in the minispares catalogue they say the standard ones are rubbish

Should i upgrade to aftermarket ARP or minispares own im running 12psi and nos

Wolfie, nothing wrong at all with the standard items, make sure they are the later ones marked with the "Y" on the top. Use second hand ones if you wish, try to use ones from a bog standard car..ie 998cc metro or something. They are bloody good.

The trick is to make sure they are tightened well into to block, this means no oil or water down the block threads. Use a proper stud tightening tool not the two nuts together trick.

Spend the money saved with an extra hour on the rollers getting it just right maybe, or decent fuel?

agreed wolfie.

Never overtighten them, and if you suspect they have ever been overtightened, even by 10lb ft, throw them away and get some from a scrapper....

See your point Will but if you can find an un rebuilt car the chances are very high they have'nt been abused.

Mind you i have an 11 stud ARP set to go on mine but i got those F.O.C.

Forgotten more than most ever know

I prefer ARP and have zero gasket casualties. WHICHEVER you use, clean the threads in the block and apply a generous countersink to the stud holes. This prevents the gasket not seating properly in case the threads are pulled up when torquing. It is practically a free trick.

I've got the Draper set and, athough called stud extractors, they work both ways (they say left and right hand threads in their description but the principal is the same, they grip in either direction).
