Hey. Basically if im fitting a dump valve do i need this? Why would you need to space the carb? I had a look and found some posts on it but i cant really work out why you would need one if i can just drill the manifold and pop the DV vacuum pipe in?

The only reason i see for the spacer is to save people drilling the manifold when fitting a DV? Does the spacer make it so that you dont have to drill the inlet manifold?

Bit confused here.lol.

Thanks.

James.

Yes the spacer saves you drilling the inlet.

If you do drill the inlet, you need to weld/tap some form of take off on there to get a good connection.

Your right the spacer just gives you a place to connect the vac line from the dump valve too. It has a hole in it i assume!

You dont need one if you can connect it into the inlet manifold somewhere else. Most peopel put it in were the servo take off is. if you need to keep the servo take off then use a banjo fiting (from a metro) and drill and tap a 1/8bsp take off in the top.

Cheers guys. Thats makes things much clearer.lol.

I do need to keep my servo but i take it the metro banjo fitting. Sounds like a good plan. Would prob save 20quid that avonbar want for the spacer.

Now I am confused. In the past I have just tee'd into the line for the vac advance on the dizzy. Total cost is a small plastic tee piece from local motor factors, about £1. My DV's have always seemed to work just fine ... or am I missing something here????

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Hmmm, if that works then that sounds like a good idea? But would that not affect the dizzy?

I seem to remember that manifold vacuum is different to ported vacuum ie. the vac port on the carb body used for vac A/R.
It might have been in the yellow book or Megasquirt manual.
Don't know if it matters in this case or not.

I just drilled a 8mm approx hole in the manifold just infront of the top of the carb, and pressed a bit of copper/brass pipe in.
