took a trip to the local scrappys the other day lookin for a shell as mine is officially dead thanks to rust.

as i talked to the chap who worked there i cast my eyes onto the shelves full of starter motors, headlights etc etc and saw a couple of turbos hanging from the wall. i asked him how much he charged for 'em. now, they werent pretty - no nice shiney metal, all covered in rust and even i know chances are they be due for a rebuild before use. ive seen turbos on ebay come and go from £20 - £80, even at shows ive seen em for £80 with manifold and whatever else bolted on. this chap wanted £100 just for the turbo!! i asked him what kind it was - T2/T3 etc and he looked blankly at me - 'this one was off a porsche' was the reply. so i asked if they were all £100 as the other turbo was slightly larger to get a reply of 'prices vary, depends which car it came off'.

now im no expert, but does that mean if i said i wanted a turbo off an MG metro id get it cheaper than a turbo off something bigger i.e. escort? - even if they use same turbo?!

this *might* be the same scrapyard that quoted me £250 for a standard 998 engine a couple of years ago. (used to be 3 scrapyards next door to each other, now only 1)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

good thing about scrappies is they tend to give a 3 month warrenty. i know mine does. gives you time to try the turbo..

but even so that does sound dear.

my mate got a new turbo, manifold, intercooler for his escort TD from my local for £45.

Saying that my scrappy is cheaper than most.
