Hi guys, as the title suggests really! What panels would i need to make a removeable steel clubman flip front excluding the bonnet? Im guessing both of the wings, headlight plates, lower front panel and a slam panel??

And how do i go about welding them correctly and square? Is there any tecniques or tips anyone can offer?

Any pics of steel flipfronts (saloons or clubmans) really appreciated!! Rich

simple if you can weld & you dont need to be the best welder,

the only panels you need are the front panel & both wings, brace bars from minispares to keep mr MOT man happy & a few sets of mole grips to hold you panels in the correct position, just be patiant to get your panel fit nice & tack you panels together on the car, take it off & weld it propely after, not the worst job if you take your time

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

i done it on my old clubman & its not that bad, just get your mole-grips & clamp them to the flange that you weld the wing to the front panel so the 2 wings & front panel are one unit, like a flip front, then offer it to the front of your car to see how it all lines up, adjust as needed to get the fit right, then weld some tacks to hold the wings & front panel together, take your mole grips off, weld some metal tabs to the front edge of your a-panels also as this is how you can join the wings to them in a neat fashion, i'll see if i can find pics, it always expalins better

these are the only pics i have, its just patiants & dont rush & it'll become clear when you have a fiddle on the car, its getting it to fit how you want which is the hard part, i used old strap gate hinges on mine which were sturdy & allowed me to remove the front with no fuss

have a search on the net, my personal view is that its probobly easier to do a flipfront in steel than grp/carbon, defo easier to get a good fit

Just thought id mention, is there a massive difference between genuine and non genuine panels? As I can save a massive amount buying some non genuines but I want them to fit well!

I would go with genuine panels, i've heard that non genuine panels don't fit to great not tried tho.

I'm thinking of getting my panels from mini machine they seem to have a good reputation.

What are you doing panel-wise then matt, making a steel flip front too?

I found this:
http://www.bmh-ltd.com/p63c.htm

Seems that you can buy all the panels seperately, but also buy a collection of them already welded together (c10), all ill need then is wings and a bonnet!

Gonna ring them tomorrow and see if they will weld the wings on too at an extra price, will let you know what they say!
