hi,
I am after a rollcage for my mini project and have no idea what to buy and who to buy from !??

The plan is it will be a 1293 turbo with around 130hp. I am asking early on in the project (Before shell has been painted) as i am unsure wether i will need a bolt in or weld in cage.

It will be a fast road car so driven fairly hard and also it may have the rail/shelf that goes across the center of the bulkhead removed due to fitment of a curley EVO 2 asad dashboard.

I am thinking sumthing along the lines of a 6-point cage with a brace across the bulkhead, any such thing ??

So what are your suggestions people ?

Thanks
Arge

Will my project ever be finished !!? hopefully you guys can help !
Its only been like 10 years in the making and I'm only just assembling my engine!

A 6 point bolt-in cage with an additional dash bar is what you want then.

Safety Devices or The Roll Centre are your best bet.

Even with a bolt-in cage you will need to weld in some spreader plates onto the floor and arches; so make sure you do this before painting.

I have a Safety Devices bolt in 6 point in my NA 1380.

For my turbo build I will be using a Roll Centre weld in "miglia spec" cage (£315 for the cage, £35 for the footer rails (mounts pedal box and steering column if using something like the dash you describe) and £20 for post ... all plus VAT.)

You do have to notch a few points yourself but that is to ensure a good fit.

I'll let you make your own mind up...

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

do you really have to chop the dash bar out for the asad 2?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

YES Safety Devices 3mm seamless
welded is the best

but ........... a dash bar they do not do

and in my book this is most important ! *wink*

especially for the road

iam going to fabricate one myself in addition to the saftey divice cage i already have

as two peeps i know have got killed head on!
and the engine came into the cab and took them out badly .... *frown*

I got my dash bar mady by The Roll Centre. I gave them the distance between the uprights and the OD of the tube.

From that they made me a lovely bar with sliight bends at the ends to match the angle of the uprights.

It didn't cost too mych £50 iirc, and their service was great.

id get a bolt in one personally. if you write the shell off theres a chance, ok maybe a small chance, of reusing the cage. but if you use a weld in cage then its in for good.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

My SD one was tight onto the roof skin whereas my RC one was superb and much nicer. the quailty was spot on.

Does anyone have any pictures of rollcages from the roll centre ??

Do you know if safety devices and the roll centre both do bolt in dash bars for their 6-point cages ?

That will swing it for me really as i really want to add some strength up front behind the dash.

cheers

To be honest im not sure how much it cost, my mate got it for me (think in the region of £350 new).

Josh. Its a rollcentre cage. The first time i put it in u hadnt cut out the rear pockets and it was a real bitch, my mate ended up losing half the skin off 1 hand. So i cut the things out and now it goes in nice and easy.
As for harness bars they would be extra, or you could put them in yourself, just use CDS steel of correct thickness.

danboy, those are some eagle eyes u got there lol. Im afraid its not my lotus, i went round to a mates to use his camera. Its his dads. He has 2 of them, both elan+2's that red one a purple one (i think it looks like a big dildo) and he has a tr4 in the garage thats hes had since he was 18. Those elans are quite cool tho, handle really nicely. Im not sure but the red one might be for sale in the near future.

yeh volvs rule. To be honest that isnt mine im borrowing it for a year from my mate while he works abroad. Its a 240 glt (top spec 8-) ). Ill be gutted when i have to give that back. Then i guess its gonna be a 340 with 360 running gear and some form of turbo engine for some cheap drift fun.
