Was wondering what was the best option for rear dampers when you have cut the arches away (as the Miglias)?

I've got short Spax ones at the moment and they bottom out over sharp bumps. They have a closed length of 9" mounting point to mounting point.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Nick.

What size wheels are you running?

I'm pretty convinced that my 13" wheel shit the arch before the shock bottoms out.

There are a number of solutions.

1) Raise the rear ride height
2) Get bespoke shorter shocks made (around £100 each)
3) fir a rear anti-roll bar
4) Fit bumpstops.

I'm sure Spax do a really short damper, not just the slightly shorter one for lowered cars, but a very short one for race cars on 10's.
I seem to remember seeing them at Minisport {groan} a few years back when i bought my normal Spax.
I could be talking shit, but on the other hand could be worth a phonecall ........

I'm running 10" wheels. I've tested them without the rubber doughnuts inand the damper bottoms out before the tyre hits the arch.

I've got bump stops on, but I had to cut them down to get some suspension travel and I didn't want it to be on the bump stops all the time. It's not a problem on the track, but is an issue on the bumpy roads in North Wales.

Just in the process of fitting a rear anti-roll bar, so I'll see what that does.

I'd heard SPAX did an even shorter one, but didn't know if it was true. What do Mini Se7ens run?

Which company would be able to make the custom ones instead?

Cheers,

Nick.

My concern would be the whole back suspention falling appart.

when you hit a big enough bump at speed causing the damper to bottom out, buckarooing the rear of the car off the ground alowing it to all fall apart.

I too have been wondering this as the trumpets are already loose when the car is jacked up, and thats with Spax short dampers. I want to go lower, but dont want the suspention collapsing on me

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I got some shorter than shot ones made for the front of mine.

Speak to LEDA, they'll make whatever you want. I think I paid £100 each for mine. Which is very reasonable for a bespoke item. They are also completly rebuidable, which is good

in fear of sounding an ass....

Cant you just raise it up again?
When i first built my car it didnt even come up to my belly button, then i caught the exhaust on a proud drain cover which bent the subframe and poked a hole in the floor

Alternatively you could get some custom bumpstops made on a lathe that are thicker than those ones that sit inside the rubber cones? but that could take some messing around with

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

ProTech shocks also make awesome stuff and will do you specials for good money ..... nice and light too .... nearly 500g lighter per shock (includding spring) than the Spax they replaced on my Se7en

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
