Hi all. I'm after abit of tech advice. see you lot gave me the idea its only you tell me how. Right i have a 1380 with a stage 3 head and kent 286 cam, all lighten and balance and all the rest. current compression is 10:1 runs about 110bhp at the flywheel. So if i wanted to turbo or supercharge the engine what modds does it need? I don't really want to start cutting the bulk head so its either a turbo above the flywheel or a mirage kit or a vmax supercharger kit (don't trust these Jonspeed ones on ebay)
Bring on the tech advice. TURBO ME.

In short, milder cam and lower compression ratio. Get it down to 8.something and you should be ok. Engine will have to come out anyway, so might as well cut and weld the bulkhead. Mirage stuff is lovely, but metty stuff is cheaper.

TBH, your 1380 sounds pretty sorted, i wouldn't bother messing about turboing it. Sell it and use the cash to build up a decent 1293 lump and turbo that.

I think Ric's hit the nail on the head!

I would keep the head and get the chambers enlarged to help lower the CR, cams are easy to sort.

If your 'box, clutch and flywheel are all a good spec, keep them and sell the block and use the cash for a 1293 block. *wink*

Only problem with cutting the bulkhead Ric is, I think it is a new 'shell?

Currently there is a supply problem with the mirage kit (unless it has been solved by now)!

Yeah its new shell and i can't bring my self to cut in to it. also the paint work in the engine bay wouldn't like it. What about a supercharger? not a found thing here?

Personally I wouldn't go supercharge route, but its personal preferance. With a bit of luck mirage will (or have) sorted there supply problem out.

I don't blame you for not wanting to chop your bulkhead out, as I know I was reluctant to cut my bulkhead even though the shell is over 20 years old. Lol

there are lots of members on here getting excellent results with 1380 turbos so i would say use what you have got. Mine was previously n/a with about 110 flywheel bhp. Either supercharged 1380 or a T2 with mirage manifold would make great fast-road engines, very little lag with a T2 as mine spins the T3 up pretty quick.

so port the head out to lower CR and change the cam for somthing alittle less lumpy then go with a little turbo or supercharger running at a low pressure.

I like the look of the Vmax superhcharge set up. looks well made and well desgined. I worry with the mirage kit, there must be alot of heat being put off in a very small space.

That part of the head that needs enlarging is the pocket around the valve faces to lower the CR.

Benross is the man to speak to for a good price! *wink*
