A few pics of a sectioned head - I'm going to see how far the 8v head can be pushed in terms of airflow and needed to see the make up of the head - so one went under the saw today. As you can see the port walls are very thick - 8-10mm+ in most places and the deck is nice and thick too - so now I know how much can be removed from the port walls its onto the flow bench next - will put the graphs up here when I have them.

oh yes - for example on how to make an inlet port work look at the radius and length of the short turn radius in the inlet port - very nice as std.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I was talking to john about doing the 16v head but the rarity of them and being unable to find a fooked one put pay to that, and i don't fancy hacking mine apart!

That looks good as standard to me, nothing jumping off the page as shocking.

Some room for imporvement though.

What do you think aout valve sizes? Looking at mine I think +1mm should be possible for both inlet and exhaust, maybe a little more too on the exhaust side but not sure about how much more the port can give... know much more after seeing those pics ... cheers

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Hi Roger - this is one of the areas I'll be looking at as well - the sectioned valve seats show there is room for +1 on both if not a little more - will get some "dummy" valves turned up to assess this whilst the head is being worked to the max!

As std the airflow is circa 130cm from a 34mm valve is pretty outstanding really - I'm sure with some throat work and valve seat detailing this will climb nicely though - the graphs will go up for the stages the head goes through.

I think I may have found a source of "drop in" +1mm valves for both ... only thing that might not work out is the spring cap mounting grooves ..... I'll let you all know when I have tried it out
