a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

ok. a standard G reg mini mayfair 1000cc. will this have 1" 1/4 or 1" 1/12 su on it ? and is the inlet manifold seperate from the exhaust (i know on the old 850`s they were one peice)

the reason i ask is there is a young lad in my area has bought a K and N element, a maniflow LCB and 2" system with stanless backbox (wants it to sound nice does not matter re performance) I said i would fit it for him today, but woke up in a cold sweat iam sure the exhaust and inlet system on the 1000cc engine is all one peice is it not ? i had a spare one in the garage which i have chopped up and it still wont fit over the center branch of the LCB.

anyone able to help, i cant get in touch with him to see what type of inlet he has :( i really dont want to let this kid down as he is excited about getting a loud car :)

please help gang advise me i know you will all have been here many times !!!

hi, standard 1 litre well mine was all in one the exhaust mainfold and inlet. a stage one kit gives you separate inlet mainfold and then you need to get a 3 branch exhaust mainfold. standard carb size i believe for one litre was 1 and 1/4. hope this helps. im not certain on all this im sure someone else can clear this up if im on wrong track. But hope this helps

p.s if your not certain on carb size measure it, you measure the diameter of the flap.

My lads G reg Mini 30 should be the same.

That has a HS4, 1 1/2 inch carb on a combined inlet/exhaust manifold.

You will need a separate inlet manifold, or cut the inlet of the combined.

The G reg Mayfair was fitted with the 1 1/2" HS4 carb at the factory.

This will fit the torquemaster manifold. It will only use two out the four studs, but it will fit.

I managed it on my bro's mini, if you cut the inlet off the exhaust and grind an arch in the middle.

You also have to flatten the top of the centre branch a touch, but if its not for performance gains then it doesn''t make much odds, and it would still be more free flowing than the standard one in anycase.

It is a fair bit of pissing around, but he was on a tight budget so you gotta do what you gotta do! Lol
