There's been a few posts like this in the past, but now I'm in a 'wondering what to do' type mood. Work is busy, and it's only going to get busier with a big software project implementation in Oct 08, plus I am finding it increasingly difficult to drag myself down to the garage away from my 4 month old daughter :)

I've got a mk 1 and an estate in bits, but all I really want to do is trackdays. I can't see me having enough time to get a car on the road soon, so I am wondering whether to sell them off and get a suitable car that's ready to go (not a ratty old golf this time!)

The other problem is I can't make my mind up what to replace the minis with. Dunno what my budget would be, but I've got a few bits that hopefully would bring in a reasonable amount of cash - solid mk1, roll cage, s brakes, 8 port engine, 1293 short engine with bv head, estate shell with a rollcage, minilites, reverse rims, etc., etc. you get the idea.

I like minis, but to a certain extent I feel a bit 'been there done that'.

Just sort of thinking out loud really. Back to the car classifieds I suppose... :)

I'm into far too much, that's the problem. I've been looking at 3 series as well :)

We'll still have my wifes Sportpack mini, but I was thinking for a track car it might be better to start with something that has more power as standard than a tuned mini, with the added bonus of it being a complete and running car lol!

306 rallye are a fun track car, hold they're value too and you'd easily get one for what you'd get for the mini bits and more!!

To be honest for a pure track car if your not fussed a mini isnt it.

205 mi-16 a la tom is a good investment, never go down and loads of fun!

If thinking RWD how about an RX7 gen 3 twin turbo!! now that would be a laugh, 0-60 in 4.5s as std i reckon!!!

*happy*

i had a 306 rallye and they are good. but you need rear wheel drive for ultimate fun on a track. still recon a starion turbo or even the RX7

or Volvo 740 turbo estate, wind the boost up and off you go. check out you tube, they've got some great videos of volvos drifting!!!

Its a serious offer Neil.....if we get cracking now then you can have something to go and have some fun in this summer. I can't afford to do anything to my own cars at the moment so I may as well have something to get my teeth into.

Betwix Harrogate and York

That's that sorted then

I keep toying with the idea of changing my daily hack mini for something quicker. But I just think now is the wrong time to sell, they're just not a car you can lose money on at the moment.

The problem starts when you take on too many projects. When your working on one never buy any classifieds and keep clear of autotrader until it's done! I have the mini which still isn't turboed yet and won't be until I graduate and get a real job, then the Aussie Holden I got when I was 14 (12 years on and still hasn't got paint on it) and I toy with the idea of getting a 67 Camaro plus have a gaggle of nitro RC cars. I faff about between them all and seem to get nothing done. Must be worse if you have a wife and sprogs.

I'd keep the mk1 for a bit and then sell it to me in a few months time lol.
