Got a very cheap a+ series from scrappy yesterday basically just to familarise myself with the engine type before I start building a decent one. Just have question.

if the gears are in a useable state, could i use any of the box for a future 1275 box rebuild?

Yes, the box on a 998 and a 1275 are similar.
