Hello, 4 months ago i bougt myself a 91' mini special, its stripped completly and i'm busy with the bodywork, removing rust and stuff like that, welding new parts,... the engine is a 998 and i want to put a 1275 turbo, but here in belgium its very hard to find a NA 1275, here in belgium a turbo engine from a metro doesnt exist, u will never find one! so my question is, is it possible to turbo my NA 1275? i already have a T2 from a R5, a T3 from a metro turbo, a turbo HIF44, plenum and in and outlet manifold. What i want from the engine is to produce like 90HP. what will i need to chance? maybe its possible to just add an oil cooler and working with low pressure, so maybe use the T2 turbo? thanks

If you search around this has been covered a few times since I've been a member (not long).

Basically the answer is yes but with limitations. 90BHP is unlikely though ..... try 100-110 and you might be in with a shout *wink*

I am really disapointed though. When I saw the thread title I was hoping to see pictures of a life size chocolate mini with a truffle centre........ mmmmmmm

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

if 90 bhp is all you want then a na 1275 should be able to achive that.
i think the metro turbo running at 4psi was around 95ish or was that when the soliniod raised it to 7psi after 4000rpm?

if you can get a compression ratio of around 9 to 1 , then you should be ok to turbo that engine up to at least 7 psi , this should deff make more power than 90 bhp
a short duration cam would also help .

@beestje007:

in the netherlands there are few turbo lumps lying around. and the ones that are sold are going for huge prices.
i,m doing the same as you, building a na engine and modifing it to take a turbo.

lower the compression and rebuilding the lot.

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.
