hi my dad is selling his van & wants a very fast large estate car, preferably rear wheel drive or four wheel drive as he's not a fan of the other type! *happy*

he dont want to spend any more than £3000 & it'll be a tow car on the very rare occasion, must of course be a bulletproof reliable car that is easy to fix at home!

he'd prefer something thats really quick but not that bad on insurence, he does want a very quick car though!

a good stereo as standard is a must for him (thats his words)

i thought maybe a scooby forester or a

mitsubishi legacy twin turbo, heard that these have probs though, i dont know???

what you reckon chaps, what would you guys recommend

i think this will be a longtermer car if we get the balance of stupid power & fuel right, & a car that can be fiddled with to make quicker easily is always nice, & parts must be very easy to get & it to be a bit of a sleeper is always good, my dad tends to take all the badges off his cars *tongue* his 58 too! haha!

mer fenton! audi good thought, i like those, very understated

i like the wuick volvos but my dad dont like the grandaddy status :) have to be convincing

Don't know if this link will work

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_...earch_full.y=11

But search for Subaru Legacy GT on Autotrader, loads for under 3k. Not sure about insurance though.

holly cack a mundo!!!! that volvo 740 turbo is top! a porpor sleeper, one of these as an estate would be nice, seem easy to tune too!

good pont will, my dad is lucky, he's has a clean license & full NCB & is at that age where insurance should be pretty good, he does 15 miles a day 5 days a week so should get a low mile policty too! all helps dont it!

those legacys are nice looking estate cars, inside is a bit bland but all jap cars eem to be,

are these a reliable bit of kit, i hve had ppl say they can be a bit unreliable dont know if thats true, seems good value for 260+hp alot of tuning potential on these i presume, alot of specialist garages

OH yep, his preferance is a manual gearbox, he aint a fan of slushbox at all!!!

Well my old legacy turbo has just been sold on ebay with 180,000 miles on the clock, still as a runner.

In 5 years (and 60,000miles) of ownership I only spent money on consumables (tyres, brakes, exhaust).

My current legacy has needed a new wheel bearing and new ARB bushes, that's it in 2 years.

Choose wisely and get a good one and it'll last forever.

Once the 3.0 Spec B gets to 10 or 11k to buy there'll be one on my drive.

Front driveshafts, ARB bushers, clutch wear (very important), noisy tappets, oil leaks around the heads, leaking sunroofs, warped brake disks and seizes callipers.

nothing wrong with a toyota i tink they are a top car but i cant think of any estates that are rwd or 4wd in the range for the money

a sierra aint that bad, its finding a minter though with the right engine, a 2.8 twin turbo 4wd would be perfect

turbo diesel is fine too but its gotta be very fast

My A4 estate is a 4WD and turbo diesel, 2.5 V6, it goes well for what it is but I wouldn't call it "very fast", and you won't find one worth having for £3k either.

my dad prefers a petrol, put it this way! there was a subaru pickup on ebay recently that had a 3ltr motor from one of the bigger scooby cars, i dont remeber which, i know its the same engine porshe use in there car, 330hp 4wd, he did consider it, the only down points were that it had a slush box & fuel consumption would more than likely been really bad! & being a pickup it was'nt that practical for what he wants now

i think 220hp minimum i think he'd spend £4000 at a push but he's tight *tongue* haha!

he'll take it up the pod or avon once or twice i think, just to see how quick it can be

my faves are the

legacy
jap import nissan stagea/skyline estate, most are auto's though :(
audi 2.8 estate
volvo

but if others for the money are about, plz let me know cause he'll be selling his lil van very very soon

will-h, i think i'm not 100% i admit! but i think its the water cooled 3.2 or 3.6 engine from a bigger scooby is used by porshe too in there cars, could be rumer i did'nt check it out myself, ya never know these days with car manufacturers

sorry i did'nt mean the porshe was 4wd 330hp that was the scooby pickup that was on egay

either way the scooby brumby pickup was a nice bit of kit!

Porsche cars always have used Porsche engines, apart from the 924, but some people will argue thats not a proper Porsche anyway.

well in recent times the giggest Subaru engine available in the UK has been 3.0l.

I suspect the Porscher thing is Ebay rubbish. Most likely a reference to the flat engine being the same type/style fitted to 911s.
