I gave them my transfer casing for them to remove the idler bearing as I didn't want to bugger it and it looks like they buggered it for me..
I can see a spot where they have applied so much heat that the alloy has melted and it was just a little raised where the thrust washer went but I thought if I just grind the high spots down as the gear runs on the shims anyway.. But after I installed the bearing (it didn't seem tight) the hole must be oval as I cannot get the idler gear into the bearing...

What can I do? can I get them to ream the bearing hole out again and flush the surface where the thrust washer goes or am I fooked??

If they have heated it that much id be surprised if the whole thing isnt warped! IMO best get another one. Cant be too hard to get hold of one over there can it?

Bollox...

I only took it there so that the "pro's" could do it PROPERLY

I guess I'll have to dig out the other non-turbo one and have a good look at it I seem to remember it has a small chunk out near the starter but it should not affect things. well-- at least that saves me the cost of a turbo type nose bearing. This time I'll get the bugger off myself, probably use Turbo Dave's method with the holes drilled at the back, at least I have a scrap one to practice on!

In my experience quite a lot of "pro's" are not as pro as they make out!!

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Exactly the reason I am setting up to do everything myself!!!! No matter how I do the sums I am going to have to get somebody else to do the crank grinding though ....

The method TD suggests for getting the bearings out works a treat so long as you take it steady..

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I have used these guys a few times before for Engine builds and have been happy with the work, They know the A+ from Midgets but I think its more a case of not knowing anything about Mini's, Though any fool should be able to tell if you are melting it!!

Yes I am going back to look for some money, Though now I think I know why they "only" charged $20 to get that out, they hit me hard for everything else!! I'll look on e-bay but What would you say it would cost me to replace it on second hand market??

I actually have a 998cc in the car now where I could source a third casing but I really don't want to break that engine up as its a great runner and I plan to sell it as just that, should get a bit of my dosh back from that.

Mini13 hit the nail suarely on the head. It never ceases to amaze me the level of incompetence of some people.

Yup you're correct, It is warped. The cover plate no longer fits without "springing" it open. I took it down there and he is playing dumb, wanted to machine it for me but I agree with you guys, its scrap. I am waiting to get a price (no rush to get one I'm OK the other non-turbo one and only need it for the spare engine) but want to face him up and tell him how much HIS mistake cost me, then ask what he intends to do about it.
If he still stonewalls me I'll not get upset, learned a long time ago its not worth it, but I have a website and am writing a piece on the project for my local car club, .....If I loose him a single customer, I'll be satisfied

You'll be able to locate one in the UK easilly.

I do know that Steve (CTR) Gibbs has one - because I sold it him... I've one on a complete engine, but not really wanting to split it if I'm honest.

I recall reading that user Bud666 swapped his out for a 'standard' one not too long ago - maybe he'll sell you his surplus item for a good price?
