Just wondered if anybody was running any form of boost retard with a dizzy ?
I know Microdynamics make one, has anybody used this ? any recommendations/alternatives ?

Wasn't your mate working on a unit ages ago Dave ?

Cheers
Phil. *smiley*

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Jon's running the prototype but with the few problems he was having it was difficult to get results i think.

Also they had trouble with interferance, possibly due to it being mounted solidly on the roll cage.

Sure dave and jon can shed further light, im just going on what i can remember *smiley*

Im hoping to run one of this units if they do the job, save some money compared to the mappable stuff!

This is not too far away now...
It had been driving the ign in my sierra for many many weeks, then was fitted to Jons car but seemed to be gettign interference - but no reason could be found... anyway, revised filters have been introduced, and the first batch (15?) of boards arrived last week...

Without sounding off, this unit is superior to the microdynamics (clockwork) and MSD unit, as it is a true boost retard unit that can shift up to 40 degrees retard, allowing it to double up as a rev-limiter, shift light, etc...

I know Jon and Mark have already dibbed the first two (fully loaded) units off the line, so it's first come first served after that...

How much dave?

Advantages/disadvantages over mappable ignition would be good to if possible.

Cost has to be the first one!

It'll be in various 'stages'
The basic is just a boost retard (0.1 to 2.0 degrees per psi) with the digital display for the boost pressure.
It has an on-board MAP sensor as standard. A nat-asp 1300 dizzy would be a better starting point than the turbo one i think...

Starting price for basic one is circa ?140 all in.

The 'fully loaded' one has shift light, rev limiter, RPM hold (statline anti-lag), gearchange cut, air-temp monitoring, RPM / Boost tell-tale, and lots of other things. This is around ?250 i think...
Base model is fully upgradable with eproms later...

Jimster is making the website as we speak (aren't you Jim...) which will have pics and prices...

This really sounds good, i guess the website will cover everything you need to do/buy for fitting?

Will you be selling the sensors etc as well dave? or is it all inclusive?

cheers

Doesn't need sensors - the MAP sensor is built in (and it's a 3 bar unit!!!).
If you want air temp sensors, the Rover MPi ones are the easiest to fit - just punch a hole in your boost hose, push the sensor in, and use the original sleeve as a nut. Bargain!!!

In it's simplest form, there are 5 wires to connect.
1) A permanent live
2) Earth
3) Ignition live
4) wire to coil
5) wire to Dizzy
and of course, the boost pipe!

It is basically an interuptor - it takes the signal from the dizzy, that would normally just go straight to the coil, but delays it according to the pressure seen at the map sensor... Sounds simple - but needs exceptionally high speed electronics for high RPM work (this one will do 4 cyl up to 12000rpm i believe).

What sort of display do you get?

Obviously the top units provide lots of handy info but is it a case of scrolling through or can you have extra displays?

Also can the display and switches be built remotely to the control unit so it could be built into the dash?

All in all sounds a top unit and a very good alternative to mappable ignition.

Yep... Perfection takes time!

Seriously, Neither Graeme or myself knew how difficult it would be to get the 'coil on time' just right, such that a good spark was generated at 7000rpm, but wouldn't cook the unit at tickover!

The other things like air temp and boost control are pretty easy by comaprison!
Seriously guys, not too long now - You wanted one didn't you Alex?
