Only way to tell is measure the temp of the oil as has been suggested. Oil can be too cold as well as too hot.

As above, if it was running too hot with the 10 row, get a larger one, unlikely though tbh.

i wouldnt worry if its undamaged and working!

As long as the oil going through it has seen regular changes it will be fine.

On my miglia there is only a 9 row cooler and i've kept that for my turbo.

You should change it if you have had an engine failure,as they collect bits of metal that no amount of washing out will remove. So always change it as a matter of cause when you rebuild an engine

Im not rebuilding it. so i guess ill be ok :) just cleaning the engine, repainting. new bit and bobs, water pump, new cam belt, seals etc etc :) so when finished, should look all new :)expensive hobbie though. but well worth it. as i say, live your life as you like it. :) and i like me minis. as well as women's of course *wink* when there not moaning about working on your mini.
She said to me the other day, you spend more time playing with your mini then you do mine lol

Yup, do without defo for running in. you'll never get the oil up to temp going steady.

Dont buy second hand coolers... Who knows whats gone through them and is about to go into your engine. Ok so a good flush "should" be ok but they arent that expensive.

it all is down to how you drive weather you need one or not, i do sprint type driving and not flat out for any time driving, so i don't need or run an oil cooler.
