Please excuse the thicko question, but (assuming it's standard) does my '91 single-carb Cooper have servo brakes or not? |

i would have thought yours would have a servo is there a big gold round thing on the o/s of your engine bay connected to your master cylinder if yes then thats your servo.
no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

yeah it'll have a servo, mine has. i cant stand it, i can hardly get eny pressure in my brakes either, should just about scrape the MOT with em. i'm gonna change it to a non servo setup with some 4 pots and vented disks as soon as possible. On 20th Oct, 2015 Tom Fenton said:

Agree with Dave, best setup I?ve ever had in a Mini. I have bled my brakes with eezibleed and have had no problems. My mate has had his share of problems with 4-pots and twin master cylinder, even with bleeding with eezibleed. If he blocks the rear brakes then the pedal is rock solid but once the rears are connected the pedal is soft. Go figure... |

My servo assisted brakes in my mini 30 ('89) are quite possibly the best i've ever had in a car, fantastic stopping power whilst being progressive. |

Well I'm unsure of what to do now. I have usedr a bleeding kit from Halfords and it all seemed to beeld thtough ok. I had clean fluid coming from each nipple with no bubbles. With no visible leaks the brake pedal still goes flat to the floor with pretty much no resistance and no brakes whatsoever...There is a faint wheezing noise coming from themaster cylinder/fluid reservoir - is this relevant?

Iain... what do you mean? All I've done is bleed the nipple at the bottom of each of the back drums. How do I adjust them up and what does this mean/do?

There's a square adjuster on the back of the drums.

Basically if your drums arent adjusted up then you get to much travel on the pedal and it will never go firm, its amazing how much difference having these adjusted makes to the feel of the pedal. |
