Hi all,

I'm still at the initial stages of my mini turbo build and have a few questions. Firstly, I would like my mini to be able to get to 60 in about 7 seconds(ish). To do this would I be right in thinking about 120 horses would be enough? Consequently, I was thinking of running the engine at about 10 psi to achieve this (but only at weekends, most of the time I would prob just run it at lower boost *wink*)

So far I have got myself a standard metty turbo engine & box which is stripped and I'm servicing. I have done a lot of searching on this website and this is what I was thinking of adding to the standard spec:

4 pin diff
phase 2 cam
renault 5 turbo intercooler
bleed valve
dump valve
& possibly sending off my head to benross as i have read he is very good with them & could enlarge it to get the CR down!

So, am I being a bit optimistic here or am I going along the right lines?!

Sounds like you are going down the right lines to me, 120bhp out of a 1275 turbo should be pritty easy. I would get the head enlarged definatly a good plan. put a good head gasket on it as well.

ok cheers mate & thanks for the quick response.

what head gasket would you recommend then?

also I am just quite concearned that the engine should not have any problems running this boost - the last thing I want to do is blow it up once I have it up and running! and also is the 0-60 time realistic?

Use the Payen BK450 head gasket, this is the proper Turbo one.
10psi if a fairly conservative figure compared to what a lot of folks run, so providing the engine is well built and properly setup, you'll have no trouble running that.
Hopefully you're includinga full transmission overhaul in your rebuild ? *smiley*

yes I am rebuilding the transmission too. when i bought the engine it was ment to have been rebuilt only a few thousand miles ago but i noticed some wear on 2nd syncro mesh so going to be getting a new 2nd gear & replacing the bearings etc *oh well*

Cant wait to get it all up and running!

I just had a look on minispares at the head gasket you recommended http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=37447

This says that it is for 1300 engines, however mine is still a standard 1275 block. which would be the best for mine or will this still fit?

Thats the gasket you want, it will fit as it is the 1275 turbo gasket. In fact i use it on a 1380 with no problems.
