New fully built Engine

I am thinking about buying a fully built engine/gearbox and was looking at the M.E.D F.I.S.

Has anyone else got one of these?

I know that I'm going to get hounded for not building my own lump, but I don't think that I'm up to the job.

Do you think that this is a good choice or are there better options out there?

I'm getting mine built, that is when I get my finaces in order. Morspeed have a nice kit, £2100 from rocker cover to gear box or £3k for the full kit or £700ish for bottom end only.

Surely rocker cover to gearbox is a complete engine? I will let others comment on MED, or do a search..

i got a built engine from vmax-im most impressed, give stuart a call

therse many out there but..Vmax scart comes out in the top 3

I've used MED in the past, always a top job.

Morespeed are well into their forced induction and specialist engines and are worth a look as there quality is good .... if a little slow sometimes.

Not used V-max but only heard good things.

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i got mine done by Ozbourne Automotive Preperation or OAP and had it about 4 or 5 years know. i melted one piston but that was my fault and at the same time noticed some wear on the straight cut gears so got the box fixed. otherwise no problems. and no yearly rebuild.

OAP build lots of race engines for Miglia, seven and mighty minis and they win!

it may sound like i've got my head up his arse but OZ builds all the engines himself unlike alot of the big companies, all are built with the same care and ive never heard a bad word about his work.

I would never go to MED. Had a head from then and a brash plug that was in the head droped out.
Always go to morspeed seems Simon used to work at MED he knows how much they rip people off.
And the guy who runs MED is so rude!

simon at morspeed was getting stuff done by OZ of OAP and OZ was getting stuff done by morspeed

Stuart at Vmax was the boy at avonbar when OZ was the engine builder there. and OZ takes cars to Vmax for the rolling road

i personaly prefer OAP but any of these 3 are good.

After adding up the parts cost, considering pricy SC drops and headwork etc, it works out only a bit dearer for me to get a pro build. Plus they always have wee sneaky ways of eeking out more horse power. Plus I really don't have any room right now for engine rebuilds and my favourite machinist is miles away now that I have moved. It's no shame!

Never had any dealings with OZ as I have never found any way to find out his contact details!!!!!! No adverts, no website (that google can find anyway) ... nothing.

Would like to have a chat at some point if anybody has his number..

Is there anyone that I should avoid at all cost! I need this engine to be reliable yet powerfull as it's a daily driver. Saying that, If it comes to it I might go for a mentalist solution and get a second car.

He was claiming that he made all MED heads afew years ago. A friend got a head from him and it was utter rubish.

i was thinking about a jonspeed flywheel iv found on ebay!
they seem the lightest, that iv found anyway, i havent rely looked to be honest, i just like the price tag! lol

Theres good, bad and mixed. Shopping around inst always good as the components are typically the same price for all suppliers, so cheaper normally means poorer quality components or less labour.

There are a few folk on the boards which could also set you up, or alternative you could take a look into an AC Dodd engine from ML motorsport.

SH Engineering is currently in vogue for Miglia's & Se7ens. He makes some beautiful looking and very powerful engines.

Or theres always Swiftune, Swifty is pretty expensive but you get what you pay for.
