Morning all.

I have had a very frustrating weekend on the mini. Last week i swapped the metty turbo brakes for an s setup. Didn't have time to bleed them, just slapped them on and rolled the car back in the garage. So this weekend first job was to bleed the brakes. Filled my easybleed kit with fluid, hooked up to a tyre and went through all the nips in order. r/n/s, r/o/s, f/n/s, f/o/s. Got all the air out and there was a steady flow of fluid.

When i got in the car, pedal went right to the floor. So, bled everything again. Same story. When your repeatedly pump the pedal it comes up a tiny bit. But as soon as you let go and press it again, drops to the floor.

Don't think it's the master cylinder as it worked fine with the metty brakes. Doesn't have a servo. Really odd, as the only things that have changed are the braided hoses and the callipers and they've been fully bled.

So, can anyone tell me: What have i done wrong or what is up with the brakes?

Only if you have some free time dude.

I've not idea what would cause it as the callipers are in good condition. I don't think the pistons are sticking at all. I'm fairly certain there is no air left in the system either.

Couldn't get the frigging ball joints undone either!

if you've got the air out and still no pedal. pump the pedal till you get something then chock the pedal down as hard as possible with a block of wood against the seat, leave it over night then check it to find the pedal is now at the top!

trust me this works!!!!!!!!

minimal effort possible!!!!!

Iain, i have never drunk a smirnoff ice in my life!! Still a girl when i comes to ball joints though. Got the joints split and separated fine, flattened the tabs down, got the socket on there and was bashing the crap out of it and it just wouldn't shift. Bastard think.

'Shed, i'll go looting for a bit of wood tonight and give that a go. Thanks for the advice, will post with an update.

Out of interest, why does this work?

The thing is about being the moon is that you get Neil Armstrong walking on your face!!

Back on topic. I have never had any joy with easybleeds I always end up with a shit pedal. Try doing it the classic way pumping the pedal and openening and closing the nipples. You can do this with 2 people, but I've had success with a one-way valve bleeder after giving up with the easybleed.

The thing about gary newman is, he's a pop star with a pilots license. Imagine that.

boosh is awesome. i remember when you and ben had vince and howard in your sig.

AAaaaanyway...

I found the oposite. I always used to screw up bleeding brakes in the traditional way. Until now the easybleed has been great.

I've also had limited success with my easybleed, I now tend to use either a one-man bleeding kit with the one way valve, or get my little brother (7 this month) to push the pedal for me.

I use a 5 foot long clear pipe, pump the pedal till I see no bubbles then lock the bleed nipple back up.

I "forgot" my easibleed when I moved house ..... hope the new owners are having more success with it than I did!!!

Get a friend to pump the pedal for you and do it the old fashioned way .....

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I may be able to give you a hand this weekend Ric, if you have no success?

Ive always done the open close method with two people, it can take a while sometimes, but it does work.

Ive got to do mine in a few weeks, could do with getting familiar again with the whole brake bleeding thing as its been a while. Lol

Easybleads are the spawn of satin!!!! I had a poorly fitting cap blow off and spray the baulkhead with dot 4, not happy as it had only just been painted!

I'll have a crack at 'sheds pump and block for a night method. If i have no joy with that, i might have to take matt or neil up on the kind offer of help. Really want to get it done for riv run this year. Esp as the plan was to have it done for last year!!!

Have the new calipers been fitted with the bleed nipples at the top? I know its obvious but still know people who have been caught out.
