I'm really not a Corvette fan, but I had the opportunity to drive a development vehicle owned by an engineering house, and it's not the kind of offer that a sane person turns down... And after the last two weeks I've had at work, it was nice to have a release!

It has got (If I recall correctly) something like 440hp on its modified engine, which coupled with a nice 6-speed transmission certainly made for something that sounded nice...

I'd like to say it was the quickest car I've been in; but suspect that my cousins ultima - being lighter - and with a similar engine was quicker. I was only a passenger in that one of course!

I was genuinely surprised at how little low-down torque the thing had though - below 2000 rpm it was like it had a pinto in it; it then got better as the revs climbed, but come 4000 rpm it all went a bit silly... LOL

Sorry - but for all the fun of abusing someone elses car, I'm still not a great fan of Corvette's. I was impressed with the traction for all the fantastic power however, and the brakes - but I still wouldn't buy one, other than to remove the mechanicals for something more interesting....

amazing you think they dont have much torque....

They would be making something like 200+lbft almost at idle !!!!

I love Corvettes. My boss has a pair of them, a 1976 and 1978, both Stingrays but the 76 is an accident damaged car and needs a new front panel.

I got to drive a really nice Audi RS4 estate yesterday. They are seriously quick and very sedate and quiet. Not too my liking at all but as a nice cruiser it would be cool.

On the subject of cool cars, at work we have just received a 1967 Ford GT40, the owner paid a paultry £750000 for it!!! And its taxed and insured for road use although its a trailer queen until it gets to the race track. Will get some pics at work tomorrow.

I can only assume by the way the power delivery came in, that the engine has defiantely been tweaked to make horsepower; either that, or it has been re-mapped at the mid/top end, and the bottom end was forgotten about.... Put it another way, I'l like to drive a 100% stock 'vette of th same year, as I can't believe it'd have that little torque from the factory...

I would kill for a Corvette, but it would have to be one of these:

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

No no, 67/68 RS Camaro every time! Or maybe a '57 chev on airbags.

For torque you need one of these:

Just listen to that blower...

off topic but LMAO at the comment on you tube that jay posted...

"if two people each spent 35k total and one spent started by buying an evo, and the other started with a cobra.... by the time all the money would b spent, the cobra would F'n own the evo... (well that's not fair... cuz the evo owner would probably spend 10k on body parts, sticker, paint, and vinyls) XP"

well i enjoyed it:)

lol, i'm - drunk now...

Havent a clue at the minute. Last June, just using it as an example of teh low end torque these engines produce, it was making 430lbft at the wheels, at 3000rpm.

It made 666lbt @ 5200rpm and 735rwhp @ 6000rpm.
That was with very conservative tuning though, as the dyno was going daft.

I think its considerably more now *happy*

As for the Mini.... I would make a confident guess that it was making circa 200bhp, and 180+ lbft.
But that is only a guess....could have been more...or less.

But your LS1 is blown though isn't it? Hmmm, 735 RWbananas?!?! Nice! I would love a nice LS1 for my car, it can take a big block so there's room but there's to much custom fabrication for me. Alloy headed small block will do.

Chrysler SRT-8's are pretty cool though...

At 3000rpm, mine isnt making much boost anyway.
LS1's just make awesome amounts of power and torque, even standard.

iain. Why did they give you an old mans car to ride around in? No one under the age of 65 should ever be seen behind the drivers wheel of that monstrosity!
