hmmm,

was there any crunching or other symptoms of the clutch dragging?

can you get a decent pic of the primary splines up? what does the plate fit like on the primary?

just a thought but if the cover has more mass than the flywheel where the flywheel may be getting hot enough for it to become the weaker material and wear away, leaving that side fo the plate fine, with a knackered flyweel. god ihope that makes sense *happy*

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the back plate wolfie did you machine 1.5mm off the lugs as turbo dave has stated

to give you more clamping load (if not) this is the problem

its the turbo torque which is killing this

see above lol

right ive put back together but still have issues, i deided while it was aprt and as i was changing flywheel, plate and grey i would change the release bearing as this was squeeling a little, the old bearing was about 3-4 mm from the shoulder on the shaft, the new one has butted up to the shoulder, the result is the arm is now more upright

the problem i have now is the rod that goes from the arm to the slave cylinder is not long enough, i stuffed a nut in the end as previously suggested but its still not enough movement to disengage clutch

i might set fire to the fcuking thing tomorrow and have done with it

You are using the right release bearing for the early type clutch aren't you?

leeds/wakefield.

the plate will wear on the backplate side more, as this is where it takes up.all mine over the years have been like this,

it looks a bit damp , are you getting oil in there, is the plate bone dry, nothing much wrong with the flywheel face for a flywheel thats had some slippage and subsequent heat gone into it,it would still work fine,

the taper looks dodgy though, although unrelated.
is there a thread with the whole saga i can peruse.

could it be the flywheel isnt seating fully on the crank taper?
That could/would cause more wear on the backplate couldnt it?

cheers dave you article spurred me on to make this

Chucked it on and it worked first time, i re-bled the clutch and also noticed some black bits in the fluid (never had this before today) i had a spare new master cylinder so changed that as well and am getting slightly better travel now on top of the new pin

I've welded several of these during my time. Not sure if it's because the wear badly, but it often solves clutch issues.
