If youre on a tight budget, I wouldnt bother with a 4 pin diff, just a competition diff pin.
I seriously doubt it! |

More importantly, what torque do the miglias make? and how many miles do they do in between rebuilds?!

Agreed .... anything much above a NA 998 and I consider a 4 pin diff essential. Every day is a school day ...........

I didn't think they did? They certainly didn't use to? I thought this was what they did. I've been told so, but I might be mistaken. Anywah what a Miglia doesm doesn't really apply in our situation. However Miglias put out a fair bit of torque and with those susp/tyres they're on the throttle very early out of turns. They must eat pins! On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Thanks for all your comments guys, ive looked at clubman set and all the min its stuff as they seem very good as ive dealt with them before. they seem really nice guys. As ive never bought a gearbox before are they all the same ratio as standard gearbox unles they are stated close ratio straight cut. I dont want the close ratio, Ijust want a a straight cut gearbox that will take the power and have same ratio or very similar to the standard box i had.

As far as I know all the straight cut gearkits are close ratio. What this effectively means is that first gear is longer than standard, top gear is the same as standard, and all the rest are closer together. If you keep the same diff ratio then you will still have the same top speed, you will be able to go faster in 1st gear than before, and then when going up through the gears the engine revs will not drop as much as before.

Thanks tom thats what i wanted to here. Something clear and its covered what i need to no. You learn something new every day i had no idea that close ration just means the middle gears are closer which make it better any ways. so all the kits should be the same as one another. before i chose which oone ill check on here first to make sure.

Thanks mate thats what i needed to here. You learn something new every day. Had no idea that the close ratio sets just mean the middle gears are closer. Should i have known that ha ha . But ta very much, ill ask everyone when i chose what set to buy to make sure they are ok just double check. I've got a 2.95 diff so that will work well with the box.

There are some slight differences between the ratios, but nothing to worry about really. Go for either Minispares Clubman kit or the Min-its Tran-x kit and you shall have no problems.

There are some sets of SC gears that only replace 2nd to 4th as first is straight cut anyway, they might help if you want to keep a very short first gear.

Just read you post roger. I no its a daily driver and i would prefer normal gears but tthey not strong enough people say. Or are they it would suit me better not to buy styraight cut as price is cheaper also. Edited by mattyking on 26th Mar, 2007. |
