ok here is a one for you lot, has anyone here seen the prefix VRO in a chassis number before ? it is a 64 "B" reg Austin ? i have had 69 austins in the past, and have never seen this in the number before ? usually it is SABT - then the numbers whereas this one is SABTVRO - ? anyone know what it means...... the car was exported to ireland a year after manufacture, and was brought back in 1995 for resto, the car was then bought by me, i have the import cert and the green slip for new keeper, but no MOT the shell needs ground up resto and is a mess !!

looking through the net i find no ref, to sabt or vro ??? Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Vehicles which are approved for sale in the EU have 17 digit VINs. Imports from outside Europe, such as Japan, may have short VINs. If you see a VIN which starts with the letters SABTVRO, take special care, because this VIN is assigned by a vehicle registration office when the original identity of a bodyshell or frame cannot be determined Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

do you reckon it could be due to the car being re shelled during its life then when it wsa exported to the uk they have put vro into the plates ?

looks like it was exported then when it came back DVLA could not prove its age ,,,,, so could be a Q , always a way round it !!! Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Restor the car with the original engine and running gear and when presenting it for inspection (unfortunately necessary if you don't want a Q) state you preference for an age-related plate if teh original can not be used.

yeah didnt want to lose the fact iam building a retro racer, and the tax exemptness would be a bonus, pus the emisions allowance is better for me :)

All is not lost ...... make a list of the paperwork and plates you have, plus any history you have of the vehicle (especially old photos showing the original number etc.)

cheers, i got the photos of the car from the day i got it, and prior to that i have photos of the original shell (stripped) prior to disposal.

Find the number for your local vehical registration office and give them a call. Be 100% open and honest and ask for their opinion .... remember be nice to them .... they are the only people who can help you!!!

nah the car has been re shelled prior to me getting it, and it is mk 3 shell, that said i am restoring a mk 1 shell psml !!:( its a real shame coz i liked the number, it was 90% reason i got the car ! the reg is similar to my sons name ie LUKE. and the first part of the reg is LKE :(:(:(

well going to speak with local DVLA dude the morra at work. the turbo is in for paint, so i very much doubt i will be doing my job tomorow, what with all this important stuff to sort. I have been trying to read up on this and i am totally gutted, it will be a friggin miracle if i get to keep the reg. i really want to smash the geezers head in i got the car from !!!! but i can't my fault ! should have known this......what i dont get is he has a tax disc but has the green slip still (which i have) surely this would have been sent away by the postie when he taxed it ?
