anyone know if the downpipe on a metro turbo can be used on a mini?
if it can where should i cut it?
if not i'll have to buy one.

Yes, you can use it, it hangs a little lower than the aftermarket type.

What diameter should the down pipe be as a minimum? and what diameter should each individual diameter be per port?

Alex, not being funny?, but have you actually compared the two?..the metro item does hang lower.Yes a slightly thinner inside diametrer but only as wide as the exhaust elbow(call it what you like).......

you can use the metro item to great effect.

well I've comapired the two types I have...

the metro one is a double spring design and the other, well I have no idea, its the same diamension (inc. how far it hangs down) but only has a single spring... I was told it was a maniflow one, but its certainly smaller in dia than yours is........

Near Lincoln

My maniflow one was definately larger than my std metty turbo one.

Might machine the inside of that "elbow" out to match what downpipe i get, every little bit helps *smiley*

Try it if you want Iain, But you might want to measure the OD where the clamp sits first... I don't reckon there is much scope at all - not if you want it to be robuust at least!

Yeah ill see what material there is there, also be good to machine a decent face rather than rough casting to sit the dowpipe on!

Doubt ill have time for all these bits at the minute though!!

I have a maniflow system fitted;
on the side of the gbox is a plate where a uclamp used the hold
the downpipe in place
there is no way this even lines up with the maniflow downpipe
so I guess there must be some kinda difference !!

I have a whole metro tubo exhaust system and downpipe ..

Any takers ?

its not even got any signs of rust on it yet !

Im confused here, I have this exhaust from huddersfield mini spares (playmini)

Along with its stainless link pipe it comes with. Am i using the metro down pipe then when i fit it all together? This elbow thing, is that the round ball type bit just below the front of the floor pans?

I was told that it is best to use a back box that has been specifically packed for a turbo application such as the maniflow exhaust

I was thinking of getting a stainless one from huddersfield ( as they are nice and cheap!!) but took the advice and went for the maniflow

I was under the impression that getting the correct back pressure was particually important

Crap / Fact ?

u decide !!

It sounds to me matey that all you will need is the metro down pipe ; its looks like a bent arm with the big ball being your elbow !!

that should link to your link pipe ( although you may need a adaptor depending on the bore ) then onto your new back box

I love those stainless systems !!

Sounds like more work!

Do the downpipes that you can buy at places such as avonbar join to mini exhausts, such as mine?

Turbo's arent bothered about any back pressure, any 2" system will do the job. How many boxes depends on what sound you want. Im not going with any and i still think it will be fairly quiet.

thing is, i cant find a break point in the link pipe behind the knuckle joint like in the pics in the FAQ last time i looked which confused me, ill have to have a good luck and bring the metro roudn to the garage again tomorow. The engine is coming for it on sunday so ill be selling that! More mini turbo money!

Think its worth about ?500? Dont think my girlfriends mum wants it anymore, so its up for sale instead. Its got CD player, brand new tyres and radiator etc, loads of bits like new engine mounts, suspention parts and its mint.

there is a break about 12" after the knuckle, just the same as a normal mini exhaust.

Sorry, When i get this new metro engine for the metro turbo (its coming on sunday, guys rebuiding it up wiht new gearbox etc atm) Will i just need a metro manifold? Ive never seen one. Wil i be able to use the same exhaust system from this "break" to the rear? Sorry ive never seen the manifolds though. Other than that, can i use a stage one kit style exhaust system from a mini? eg, seperate inlet, twin lcb pipes and a Y piece?
