well im not going to run a heater in the car so im gonna use the one thats in at the moment and plumb it in as it would normaly be but without the heater valve and in the enginebay instead, if thats posible?

a pic would help alot though so i can get an idea how to cram it all in! 10row oil cooler 2wd cossie ic and heater matrix! it should fit but it may be a squash!
would i benifit from using a differnt type from a differnt car do you think?

cheers

yea i had the same idea to with the extra ad got matrix off a jag, nice and small, was gonna plumb it in between the exsisting heater well after the heater prob. But i didnt in the end. i was struggling for a while to keep heat down, and then i fitted a 74 degree thermostate, opened up the water way for water pump, bought new high capcity pump and a 2 core rad and to be honest i havent needed the extra rad. it keeps cool enough. im sure the other guys on here will say the same but maybe not to prove me wrong. specially in this weather, who nows what summer will be like as i havent had the turbo running in 30 degrees or so if we get that hot again

well im only going to drive it in the nice days so will see the hottest days most probobly. and when it is used it will be on tracks and chav bashing etc so will be driven hard for most of its life! lol

i dont think you can have too much cooling in a mini anyway can you? lol

true true but im not trying to argue just state im sure people are running big boost with just one rad. if you have room though for for it the extra water vloume will help alone let alone the rad in direct air flow if you can get it behind the grill or something

A bit crowded:

I do have a front mounted rad, but the extra one REALLY does help. Especially as it helps circulate water through the head properly. Do it§

where is the extra rad from in that pic, and how is it plumbed in?
i think there should be enough room for one as im sticking with the side mounted 2 core rad.

cheers for the pic vegard

Left, oil cooler. Middle rad and right heater matrix plumbed in as it supposed to. Head to bottom hose.

It is worth remembering that you have to warm up all the extra water before the engine will be running as it should. When running cold it's just running in-efficiently and the oil will take longer to come up to temperature and thus the engine will wear more on shorter journeys. Very important for a road car and the reason why modern engine designs try to circulate as little water as possible but use it as efficiently as possible.

An aluminium rad will help with cooling efficiency. for example my kit car is running a rad from a late model 1 litre Polo and quite happily copes with the 300 bhp from the turbocharged 4AGE engine!!
Another good tip for all the front mounted rad users is to duct air through it. If the air can go around the rad it will so by ducting the air through the rad you are using the radiator as efficiently as possible and it will also help the fans performance too.

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

From the garage :) If it isn't a Mini one, then it's an Allegro, 1300 or possibly Maxi. Some of my dad's old BL stuff :)

Jay .... unfortunately not ..... it's in pieces due to a numpty involving me in his accident at Castle Combe a few years back. I'm sure the racers will tell you what it would feel like to hit the wall on the outside of Quary doing daft mph .... car was able to cross avon rise at 135 and only needed a dab and 1 cog down to turn into Quary if the line was good.

I'm going to put it back together sometime ..... just need to get my life in order first.

Since I built the chassis and suspension components I can't just buy them off the shelf ..... At least as I can prove it was running before 98 it won't need SVA after being rebuilt but it took me nearly 18 months to get confirmation of that from the DVLA by which time I had sort of lost motivation :(
