Near Daventry, midlands

I know this has been discussed before, but some information has come to light just recently...

Im trying to decide what to do gearset wise and have ground to a halt wrestling with the problem.

Currently there are these synchromesh straight cut gearsets available:

Clubman (minispares) - 330
Abingdon (minispares) - 415
Tran-x (Min-its) - 380
Jack Knight - 395 (not sure if inc vat)
Quaife - £550 inc vat

The recent conundrum for me is the increase in cost of the quaife gearset which would be my immediate choice if it were not for the price. They have just started moly coating their synchro cones meaning you can use steel baulk rings with the sets, but the price increase for that process is heavey (£120 increase).

I cant decide if its worth it *oh well*

Has anybody got any long term experience (im talking 15k+ miles) with either the Minispares abingdon kit or the tran-x kit? I've seen the clubman kit 3 times now being worthy of the bin (pitting or severe wear) after only 10,000, or so, miles (all on separate occasions)

Thoughts are welcome gents :)

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

I've used the Tran-X set for around 12k miles previously and it was still going strong when I took it out. Only took it out as I was going to be doing 200 miles per day in the car and wanted some peice and quiet!

I wish I'd never sold it but times where hard etc. etc.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

How easy is it to fit these gearsets? Is it an average diy mechanics kind of thing, or more specialised? I think I have a Jack Knight set...I was drinking when I phoned the old owner!

Ive run my Clubman set for 7 hard years now with no problems.
