I was taking my turbo to bits today for a rebuild shortly.

Ive snapped two bolts which attach the wastegate housing. The bolts were badly corroded.

On the plus side, theres about 10mm of thread sticking out. Whats the best way to try and get them out without damaging the housing?

Taking the engine to bits was far easier than the turbo!

Secondly, there was minor play in the shaft before dismantling.

Will a rebuild kit remove the play ie. new bearing solve the problem? There is no evidence that the impeller has been touching the sides

I marked the position of the impellor as well before removing

Best way is to use plenty of heat, and a couple of nuts locked together on the stud. If they do't grip then mole grips!

I had the same problem, the above worked for one stud but the other 2 had to be drilled...it was a mission as the studs were really hard, and the drill needs goes blunt really quick!
