hi there, i am going to build a track day turbo mini, my plans are to buy a good cond rolling shell, with most or all bodywork done (like laundrymike's but maybe a bit cheaper) ready for me to buy a metro turbo engine and drop it in, obviously with the subframe modified, to be honest this is my first project car, although i am handy with these kind of things and am budding to do as much work myself as i can, the mini needs to be road legal, although i will trailor the car for the near future, i would like people in the know's advice and suggestions on the build, mainly the engine, i would be looking for around 150bhp, and when the engines built i will have it tuned at a rolling road, i am in manchester, are there any mini specialists close by? thanks a lot for all help

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Have a search and you'll find lots of different answers from lots of people.

For 150 bhp you could do a lot worse than get a head from Benross, a 1293 short motor (mainly because you'll be hard pushed to find a decent standard bore turbo lump), drop a phase 2 turbo cam in and spend what's left on a turbo suited to the job.

By the time you get to 150 bhp the gearbox is going to be complaining .... part of the reason I'm limiting the boost on my girlfriends car.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

what do you think of that engine? it doesn't need a subfrme box for a start. 150bhp is just a round figure i thought of, if i built the engine up and it had 120 for instance, and it felt enough, i would stop there, are there any major drawbacks or difficulties apart from the subframe box that i will encounter? i have been looking at www.turbo-mini.com as it shows parts needed etc
