Looking in my gear box today i noticed a little cut marks in the gear on the far left at the front if you are looking at the gear box from the front as it would be on the car. Is this something to worry about ?? thanx |

I'm pretty sure they are simply for visual identification of the gearset. It's meant to be there. On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

thanks for the advice i've just made up a four pin diff and putting it back in any dos or donts you need to time anything or is it case of putting it in away u go

You need to set the preload on the side plates on the diff housing. Follow your Haynes. |

easist way is install diff with side plates and gasgets but no shims then measure gap between bearing and side plates then add one thou to total gap for the abount of shims you want.
