Hi guys,

I've had a thought, i have a big problem with run on on my 1380 na. Thinking though it, i think i have the little valve on my butterfly in the HIF44 carb.... should i get a solid replacment? whats the idea behind the valve?

Thanks
Alex.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

that is not the anti run on valve

leave the carb alone unless its for a track engine

retard your ignition timing 2 to 3 degrees and cheque the fuelings correct

i no its not the Anti run on valve but in the mini spares catolog it list two butterflys one with a plunger and spring and another solid disc and the one with the hole and spring they call a "over run valve" http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=38693

Why are they sold as either solid or with a "air valve"??????????

The poppet valve in the butterfly is to reduce hydrocarbons on overrun (overrun is when you lift off the accelerator and the engine is being driven by the inertia of the car).

Some of the very early 90's coopers had a anti run on valve fitted above the servo. I know a mate had one on a J reg. Not sure how it plumbed in though. Think it might have been by a vacuum hose because they hiss like a little dump valve when you switch off the engine.

Basically they just allow air through the system to lean the mixture to the point it just can't run.

Normally plumbed into the engine side of the carb.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

If it was the same as the MG Metro, the anti-run on valve was connected into the servo vacuum hose. When the ignition switched off it opened and collapsed the vacuum in the manifold.

i just found my self confused when i read in the minispares catolog in which they lable the valve on the buttifly as a run on valve but i understand why now. They really love changing things don't they.
