Ive been in touch with someone that does carbon fibre moulding, about making some retro number plates.

These would be black with visable weave, to standard numberplate size with the rounded corners and would be a really good finish and will look really smart.

They would be 1.8mm thick, so rigid, so could replace the front numberplate and can be drilled and mounted to the front valance.

The guy that will be making them can do them for £35 for one numberplate, or £60 for two numberplates.

For the letters on mine im going to use white letter stickers i found in a local hardware store, i should be able to get hold of these cheap

Ill get some made for my car, and get some good photos and see waht you all think.

no way, not chavtastic at all.
If it was 'fake' carbon fiber then maybe, but this is going to be proper carbon fibre with visable weave.

could the stick on letters go in the resin?

I think stuck on ones would spoil the look.

Although they are real carbon fibre, many people would think it was fake as there are soo many fake carbon bits around....Mr Plod wouldn't like it either..

I think the stick on white ones will look good as long as they are in the resin.

how about, if it was thin carbon fibre, he can do it 0.8mm thickness, with the letters layed out properly, then a proper SIGNUM numberplate perspex front over the top?

That would give it a proper numberplate finish, but with the visable weave and the letters "built in" to it?

Personally - I'd sooner have pure retro pressed alloy plates.
I'd have thought you'd want to keep the idea to ensure your mini is 100% retro?

i've seen real carbon fibre with the yellow plastic on top, cut out for the letters so it looks yellow with carbon letters, did look quite good.

also how about white stick on letters then clear laqured(sp) over the top? or get silver letters made by sticker type people

i was thinking about a carbon number plate for the back of my van. but get the plate made longer and fix the number plate lights direct to it so i dont need the metal back plate, thus saving weight

I like nice quiet girly Minis

I like the idea, but to look good the numbers would either have to be stuck on moulded numbers (standing proud) or in the resin as stated.

I could use them on my car but non of the others I work on.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
