Hey guys, was working on me car a little while back when my neighbour came over to complain about the noise I've been making the past couple of weeks. Obviously it's the angle grinders and the hammering making the noise, and can't do without those!
So what I need to know is: Am I breaking any laws working on it, and is there any way I can reduce the noise that carries over from my garden to theirs? Something like large fibreboard sheets or something.
Cheers lads

Near Daventry, midlands

buy your neighbour some ear plugs?

on a more serious note, i do all of my grinding inside the garage, this keeps noise to a minimum but admitadly is still noisy. Other than that i cant really think of much

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

my neighbors didn't like it when i was making a noise restoring mine. i just came to an agreement with them, i only did and serious noisy work on the weekends between the times of 11am to 4pm.

oh and my neighbors front door is about 3-4 meters from my mini.

id go with this idea, agree times to work on the car that are mutually agreeable.

Somewhere around Swindon

i think its swings and roundabouts

dont go overboard late at night and if they complain then point out that its not like you have made this noise for years its a few weeks and the sooner you finish the soooner the noise will stop ... so fuck off back to your own house

I nearly got clobbered by the man down the road when I was breaking in my nitro RC car. It's not that noisy and I was well within my legal rights but I chucked it in anyway.

If he/she wasn't a BAC when they complained then I'd go and compromise with them, say I needed to do some work, could promise I'd stop by something o clock. Hopefully, you looking like you're taking their complaint seriously would appease them.

It must've taken quite a lot for the average person to come and complain, most people don't want to cause a fuss do they?

I think Steve's got the best idea, try and see if you can come to an arrangement of sorts, at the end of the day it's not like you drinking and partying until the small hours of the morning.

I know what it's like mind, there's no way I could do any work on the Mini where I live, but I'm lucky as my folks only live 20 miles up the road and have a large garage I can use.

If you get really stuck have a word with the guys on West Country Mini, several of them have workshops & barns around the Bristol area.

Thanks for the replies lads, should have the problem sorted now. Came to an arrangement where we only do it certain times on saturdays, and if they need us to stop we will. Also found if we wheel it down to the end of the garden it helps with noise a lot.
Cheers lads!
