How bad is it, and is it dusty? What about floor tiles, or that stuff used for levelling floors?

Paul Wiltshire put down black and white chequered lino, looked cool but no good if you have any welding to do.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I used Screwfix floor paint .... when on thick and lasted well until I moved my milling machine in .... scratched to buggery now! Will repaint it this summer.

Before I paint I lay whatever vynal flooring is cheapest from the discount carpet stores .... saves having to clean up a mess afterwards (roll it up ... throw it away) and is easy to keep the dust down on. No good for welding above though as Paul says.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

yeah me floor is as per the pic in the floor heating link (the one where the dude is putting the layer over concrete and you can see the chipped up lumps) me mate is a builder and he reckons that stuff breaks up real quick and you end up with bits coming off, no matter how much you prep the surface. i will probably try screwfix. i have been looking at the resin stuff that is used in factories but looks a pain to lay, plus you cant go on it for 48 hours which is no good.

iv been reading up on POR15 paint, from what i gather its perfect for painting concrete floors, very tough and chemical resistant.

sorry to hi-jack the the thread, I'm also looking to paint my garage floor, which has been powerfloated. someone has told me that as the floor is so smooth and shiny that floor paint will not stick, is this true?

has your paint come off anywhere?

Must send you £50 to!

I'll have £50 too Jim if you are giving them out?

As for PVA, you need to thin it with water as otherwise its too thick to spread, you need the concrete to suck it in to seal it. I mixed it about 60% PVA/40% water, PVA is so cheap its virtually for nowt anyway.

50/50 Pva and water for mine, and never bothered to paint over it, but spilt paint on it and that stuck ok.

Cheers Jim, but wait until you've seen it and are happy. JF collected it yesterday.

how about lining it with 3/4" ply - nice and smooth surface and warm to lie on when working under the car. You can then paint it to seal from oil stains etc.

I've banged loads of insulation under the floor slab, hopefully it should be nice and warm, also added pipes for central heating too.

I wanted it powerfloated so it was easy to keep clean, and wheel engine cranes / trolley jacks around with out them rattleing about when moved. The photo's don't show how smooth the floor is.

One of the things I'd have liked my garage to have was a powerfloat floor, really nice to work on.

Right, I'm getting really close to putting the paint on the floor now, (hopefully this weekend) some people have adviced me to pva the floor, whil eothere have said thin down the floor paint with thinners, and let that soak in, what are your thoughts?

PVA. My old man did the thinners trick on a powerfloat floor when he had a garage built, it came off and we were sweeping red flakes up for years.
