I have found one of my spare blocks to be linered and was wondering if there are any other drawbacks?

Some folks hate them, but their comments seem somewhat flawed.
I personally would happilly use a lainered block to +020 or +040 for my engine.

The liners stick out past the bottom of the bore (or has on the blocks i've seen) meaning that you won't be able to fit oil jets for the pistons should you wish too.

on the other hand they are rumered to be considerably harder wearing due to the better grade material of the liner.

swings and roundabouts...

I'm using a linered block, for the reasons as outlined above, plus the fact I already had it.

This is good news for me, I brought a car kicking a screaming over from Australia that is on +.60 already and it's liped and I obviously can't get another block easily so at least I have the liner option.

Also as a bit of forward planning, I am only 19 and trying to stockpile a few blocks before they become proporly scarce at standard or near standard bore. what milage would you expect from a turbo engine, running at 120-130 bananas, driven reasonably hard but not thrashed before a rebore is necessary.

Here's my 1293 with liners & zetec jets:

Most factory engines with liners fitted had all four cylinders honed at the same time, and the bores aren't always centralised in the liners if than makes sense. That means that most blocks are only good for a +20 rebore at most, unless you replace the liners. I've got Roger's old cooper block in the back of my garage and the factory bore is so off centre that it needs to be relined before it'll take a +10 rebore.

EDIT: Before anyone states the obvious; the shitey bolts on the central strap have now gone.

This is the best picture I've got, & it's a bit hard to see the offset factory bore, but I've tried to highlight where the sleeve is at it's thinnest.

Well thats not like the linered A+ blocks i have seen, the ones i saw the liner protruded a good way, I know because i dropped a ratchet in and broke a big chunk off it*frown*

liners are not prefered in modern engines for heat tranfer reasons....

heres some pics of my block, it is at standard bore, also the liners stick out about 2mm proud out the bottom of the cylinders.

Oh by the way where does the letters [ img ] go in relation to the picture url as i have failed to embed them in the thread.
