I've decided not to bother with my engine any more! It needs piston rings, timing gear and god knows what else! To be honnest it has been nothing but trouble since I got it!

I'm been speaking to Steve at M.E.D about their fully built F.I.S engine and gearbox and I think that I'm going to do it!

Have a look at the full spec. Do you think that I've missed anything? Should I go for 1293, 1310 or 1330?

http://www.mobbautobodyshop.co.uk/theoneey...ISBUILTUNIT.doc

On top of this I am going to get a Radtec side mounted rad and a custom Forge or Radtec intercooler.

Should all be done within a couple of months!

Don't go for the Verto clutch - insist on a single grey on an ultralight.

Consider getting a SC trans and drops instead of the standard (unless I'm missing something)?

Remember though, if you bolt a stock turbo, or a clockwork dizzy onto a 'bling' engine, it won't go aswell as a 'basic' engine with a well matched turbo and a decent ignition system.

You'll also get folks telling you that MED are expensive / look at x/y/z... In that respect - just do what you want is my advice. It's your wallet.

I'd actually go for minispares mega pistons, and have them machined to 14/15cc, and keep the head chamber at a more realistic volume. You'll probably find this'll be cheaper aswell.

Thats ALOT of money!

Have they given you a breakdown cost of each part e.g. block, head ,'box etc?

IIRC You can get a sc box and drops for 1100quid.

Get Benross to sort the head, turbo elbow etc out.

That only leaves the block then...Ive heard Stuart at Vmax is well priced and does a good job?

If your willing to assemble it yourself (it will mostly be new parts anyway) then you could save yourself a fair bit of money I would of thought!

I'm no mechanic or engineer, Just a humble graphic designer who doesn't mind 'giving it a go'. But when it comes to spending a fair amount of money on engine components I don't think that I would feel confident enough to assemble them, plus, if it all goes wrong i wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

I haven't contacted Vmax yet. I will try Stuart in the morning.

I don't really want anything ballistic (yet). Just wanted it back on the road with a reliable lump in it.

TurboDave - It has got SC drops and I was thinking about adding a MJ while it was apart. Do you have any other suggestions for a supplier of a complete package?

The main reason that I am considering M.E.D over the competition is solely down to their reputation. It might be £500 more than Moorspeed, but I think that it's worth it.

Try pulling your existing engine apart.....see whats what. Make notes & label everything, it maybe more simple than you think. I'm no mechanic, but I'm mechanically minded. Thats how I would approach it. Nothing to lose that way.

i agree with TD on this one buddy, but remember to get the engine setup properly it is best taken on the rollers. and i dont care who builds it, it still has the chance of going bang ! reckon someone on here could build you an engine of good spec for less *wink* (not me am shite though)

I haven't spoken to John yet Steve.

I was just a bit concerned that I would find more wrong once I got it open. I know for sure that it needs pistons, rebore, timing gear, drop gears, diff, rebuilt box (2nd gear syncro is shot) and who knows what unknown problems there might be.

The cost of all these parts adds up. I felt that buying a fully built unit might work out as a more sensible option, for me at least.

I wont be using my current engine as an exchange, so I thought that I could use it as a project build, and learn a bit more in the process.

I'm with TD on this one. I wouldn't atemped to do an engine my self, Im sure i could if i tryed but its alot easyer to get one built and if somthing is wrong with it you can shout at some one else to fix it. Personly i would use morspeed tho. My Head is MED and its a wicked head gives great power but i found when Simon left MED and started Morspeed that Simon had made the head so i asked him to build me a 1380 and i love it. What you want is a company that will listern and give you what you want and a service you are happy with and if MED checks your boxes you'll have a good engine at the end of it.

From what I have heard from plenty of other people I would not touch Morspeed with a barge pole at the present time. I have personally dealt with Steve at MED and Ian at Avonbar and will recommend either.

The only company that I know I would not use is Morspeed.

Thanks for the good advice guys ( as always). I have just got to have a think and decide which route to take.

Steve, I spoke to John, but it sounds like that he's a bit snowed under at the moment.
